Option #1: Write a literacy autobiography.

Starting with prewriting that covers key events in your literacy development (reading, writing, oral literacies, digital literacies, etc.), you will then need to focus on one or perhaps two of the most significant events to you. Please address the following questions throughout your autobiography: 1. What assumption did you have/do you have about literacy? How do you define literacy? 2. Were these positive or negative literacy experiences? Explain. 3. Who else was involved in this event? What do you think their perspectives were about the event? 4. Do you feel the same way about the event when it occurred as you do now? Why/why not? 5. How does your reaction to the literacy event reflect your cultural values? 6. At the conclusion of your autobiography, its important to reflect on these experiences. How is this key event indicative of your literacy development journey? Your autobiography should include a lot of detail and dialogue to add depth and analysis to your narrative. Prewriting: Assumption about literacy/ Definition: I used to think that literacy was just reading and writing, but now I know that you can be literate in other things, such as, math, music, sports, and technology. I define literacy as being able to understand and comprehend the process or concepts of something. Events: Being crowned queen of Read and Reward (RNR) in 5th grade. Positive experience My friends Jake, Maddie, and Jordan were all involved and recognized also. The principal at the time crowned us in front of the entire school in the auditorium. I feel the same about the experience, but I appreciate it much more now. Playing Math 24 and being one of the finalists in 5th grade, but losing to a classmate. Positive/ negative experience. Other finalists and a few math teachers were there.

At the time I was disappointed, but now I appreciate it because it shows how there are other people who are better than me and if I want to succeed it will take hard work and practice. Conclusion: These events have helped me to understand how hard work pays off. If I practice enough and am determined enough I can succeed and better myself.
