Philosophy of Inclusion Education Tell me and Ill forget, show me and I may remember, involve me and Ill understand

is a Chinese Proverb that I used in my very first educational philosophy. This quote describes how I plan to operate my classroom. Inclusion in general education allows students with special needs to interact with typical peers (Doorlag, 2011). I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and encouraging atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. Teaching an inclusive classroom it is important not to label students and identify the diverse classroom. A students language and culture can affect his or her school behavior and academic success; if the students background is discrepant from that of the school, he or she may fail to meet scholastic expectations (Doorlag, 2011). There are several methods in inclusive classrooms that I have learned are very important such as the pre- and formal referral process, the students IEP, and the concepts of the CEC Standards. I believe it is significant to understand that every student has their own way of learning and it is my responsibility to find out which way is best. I plan to communicate and collaborate with parents and other teachers who are involved with the students or their IEP to determine what is best for the child. It is important for children to stay on track and to understand what they are learning which is why I believe cooperative learning is a good strategy. In my recent classroom observation, Response-to-Intervention, or SPARK as this school calls it, is a great approach for students to interact and learn with students of similar abilities. I plan to incorporate this structure within my own classroom and without labeling the students have different activities ready for each group.

For me, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. My hope is to get across my passion of teaching so that children are excited to learn and want to learn. I want my students to receive a solid education and work with someone who is sensitive and aware of their needs. They are my number one priority and I plan on giving them the best education possible.
