Bueltmann 1 Abi Bueltmann Professor Brandon EDUC- 1070 10 November 2013 When considering students with sensory and

physical disabilities the app Shelbys Quest seems to be a useful tool for such individuals. An occupational therapist designed the app with aims to instill inspiration and enjoyment in education among young children. It is used as a therapy tool for children with special needs such as developmental delay, fine motor delay, visual perceptual deficits, autism/Aspergers Syndrome and Down syndrome. Physical disabilities usually affect an individuals mobility and agility. Difficulties with motor movement may include gross- and fine-motor movement and commonly exist along with other disabilities. Such people need the appropriate tools for access and control that will allow them to function across environments including home, school and community. This app specifically focuses on the development of fine motor skills in young children and those with physical disabilities. Sensory disabilities involve impairments associated with the loss of any of the senses, usually vision or hearing. People with sensory disabilities need tools that allow them to function normally despite their impaired senses. Shelbys Quest is intended to help with visual perceptual deficits among other things. It includes 3-tools-in-one that focus on fine motor and visual perceptual skills, which work on pinching, finger isolation, tracking and sorting. The application also includes the ability to track multiple student profiles, and specialized tracking of child or student performance and progress for easy and quick documentation, so it is especially useful for teachers working with students with disabilities. The app focuses specifically on students with disabilities both sensory and physical so I believe it is useful.
