Assemblyman Chris A. Brown today called on the federal government and the President to act quickly to protect more than 90 000 subscribers of !ori"on Blue Cross Blue #hield of $ew %ersey from losing their insurance. &'he President had stated that people can keep their insurance. 'his was not supposed to happen but inconsistent and confusing messages from the federal government have disrupted the lives of almost (00 000 $ew %ersey residents who are confused frightened and facing the prospects of losing their health insurance in the $ew )ear * said Brown +,Atlantic. !ori"on intended to renew the &Basic and -ssential Plus* .B/-0 plans for current subscribers. 'he federal government has blocked the efforts by refusing to grant a waiver because the current policies do not include all the new mandates contained in the Affordable Care Act. &'he subscribers are ready to purchase insurance !ori"on wants to sell them the insurance. But there1s a catch 2 the federal government is really forcing !ori"on to cancel their B/- plans * said Brown. &'he President should keep his promise and the subscribers should keep their current coverage for another year.* $ew %ersey 3epartment of Banking and 4nsurance has said that to comply with the new federal mandates !ori"on1s &Basic and -ssential Plus* plans would have to be drastically altered which would significantly increase premiums.
