K P Singh Joint Secretary University Grants Commission Subject: Seeking Extension for sending in suggestions/comments on the draft regulations on Technical and Professional Education hitherto regulated by AICTE Dear Sir, This is with reference to your public notice dated December 3rd, 2013 whereby you have sought suggestions/comments on the draft regulation on Technical and Professional Education hitherto regulated by AICTE latest by 9.12.2013. Incidentally, this request of yours to seek suggestions/comments from Universities/Colleges as well as other Stakeholders seems to be an extremely speedy exercise. The notice has been issued on 3rd of December on the eve of Delhi Assembly Elections on 4th December; there are practically 2 working days to ponder over these draft regulations. Interestingly, the regulatory vacuum which impelled the UGC to intervene "to evolve a suitable methodology to ensure that existing technical/engineering colleges affiliated to universities do not dilute standards of technical education imparted by them" was created long back on April 25th, 2013. This is thereby to request you to give sufficient time to give suggestions/comments on these draft regulation when the Commission itself took over 7 months to issue the same. Being a responsible publication covering Engineering Education in the country, we are of the sincere view that no suggestions/comments on an issue as serious and sensitive as Regulation of Higher Technical Education in the country can be given in a time span of 2 working days.
