Final Reflection

This year I have done a lot in my English class. I have done everything from short journals, to long essays, to answering questions, and even building a website of my own. I have written out stories, memories, ideas, and arguments. Looking back at all of the work I have accomplished this semester, I feel really proud of myself. One thing I wrote for this class was an opinion essay. I had to answer the question of whether or not a videogame can be literature. At first I wasnt sure what I thought. To be truthful I had never considered the idea before. After giving it some thought and hearing some of my classmates ideas, I decided that it can be considered literature. That paper gave me a wider perspective of what literature is. It opened up more possibilities and ideas to consider for what can be literature. I always considered it as just being a book or a novel. Now I see that it can be much more than that. Another thing I have learned this year is what it means to be literate. I always thought it just meant to be able to read and write. Now I know better. Literacy is more than just reading and writing. It also includes giving speeches and even playing a videogame. This semester of English has also helped me be able to write in third person better for academic papers. I didnt realize how strict it really was before this

class. I had to write a journal story in third person, and that helped me be able to understand it more. Another assignment that helped me work on third person was my ethnography. I had to write that about a discourse community completely in third person. At first it sounded a little tricky, but once I got started writing it became more natural as I went. Writing in third person isnt that bad once yo u get a clear understanding of it. All in all this class has helped me a lot with my writing skills. Ive learned what my weaknesses and strengths are in the writing field. Ive learned what to work on to help improve my papers. Ive learned how to properly revise my papers. Ive learned more about the academic tone. All in all this semester has done a lot for me. Its been very helpful and a terrific English course.
