Intro Ballet Nichole Brown 11/25/13 Live Performance Analysis For the live performance analysis, I eci e to !

o to e"otion at #L$$ #o%th $amp%s, on Novem&er 23r ' I first went into the performance with the i ea that it was !oin! to &e a &allet' (hin!s s%ch as (he N%tcrac)er, or other similar pro %ctions li)e what we viewe in class for o%r powerpoint presentations, came to min ' *hen I first wal)e in, an saw the ancers, an they i n+t seem to &e oin! many &allet movements' I reali,e ri!ht from the start that this was not !oin! to &e a &allet s%ch as the ones I have &een to in the past' (he ancers were oin! m%ch more ancin!, an movin!, rather than the &allet movements that I seeme to have learne this past semester, an seen in other areas' As I &e!an to loo) closer, however, I i &e!in to pic) %p some movements, that even I )new' I was s%rprise how when it appeare at first li)e the ancers were -%st ancin!, they act%ally ha some specific movements that I was familiar with' (owar the &e!innin! of the show, there was a piece where two women were ancin!, an there was one la y who was sin!in! a small amo%nt, &%t most of the ance was silent' I appreciate how the silence ma e yo% really foc%s in on what the ancers were oin!, witho%t other istractions' It also m%st &e really har to time everythin! correctly, especially with two people, witho%t m%sic, an that was commen a&le' (he sin!er seeme to &e a &it istractin! at times, &%t I thin) over all helpe the piece' .ne movement that I have learne that I often saw the women oin! was a ron en lair' (he ne/t piece was with a lar!er !ro%p of ancers, an they also %se props' 0ach of them ha a chair that they move all aro%n the sta!e' At first when the chairs were in front of the ancers, it was har for me to see e/actly what they were oin!, &%t towar s the en , once e -am&e' (hey wo%l often o it on the !ro%n , &%t I i see a few

they move to &e either on the si e of, or in front of the chairs, I en-oye this piece m%ch more' I notice that they all i a few piro%ettes, an they were in sync, which was very commen a&le' At times if they were not all !oin! at the same time, it was very istractin!' (he timin! was one very well in this piece' I also en-oye how they move all aro%n the sta!e, an %se repetition' It was f%n to reco!ni,e movements they ha !oin! to o ne/t' I also notice a lot of ron one earlier, an in yo%r hea )now what they were e -am&e, an attit% e movements in this piece'

(hey also ha portions where there was a solo with the foc%s on only one ancer, then &ac) to the whole !ro%p' Almost every mem&er ha a solo or %et, an I thin) that helpe to hol my attention, an )eep my interest thro%!ho%t the piece' Another piece I notice was title Unfinished after rea in! the note, I was &etter a&le to %n erstan this piece' I notice &oth the an!er an the hope in the ancers faces, an movements, as if they were see)in! to reach somethin!' It also was the most reco!ni,a&le, as far as &allet movements, for me' I saw co%p1, pas e &o%rr1e , attit% e, releve, pli1, !lissa e, an pi2%e all &ein! %se m%ltiple times thro%!ho%t the ance' (he ne/t piece was set to the La y 3a!a son!, Applause' I i not see many, if any &allet movements in this piece' .ne thin! that was one well tho%!h, was their timin!' I thin) this piece ha the &est timin!, an also the &est facial e/pressions' 4o% co%l tell the ancers were very into the ance, an also en-oyin! themselves, which ma e me en-oy it more' (here were many more ances, &%t overall, the movement I notice the most was the ron e -am&e' Another &i! thin! was when the ancers feet were pointe , it loo)e m%ch &etter'

I appreciate how the choreo!raphy matche the timin! of the m%sic' Also, &ein! in sync with the other ancers was very important' .verall I really en-oye !oin! to this performance, an it was free, so if I have another opport%nity similar to this, I will ta)e it5
