MOUNTAIN VIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

HISTORY
Mountain View Elementary School opened its doors for the first time August 24, 2000.

According to the schools website, Mountain View serves the population of students who had attended Mt. Clinton Elementary School, which closed at the end of the 1999-2000 school year.

Redistricting also brought students to Mountain View who had previously attended Pleasant Valley, Ottobine, and John Wayland elementary schools.

WORD MINISTRIES CHRISTIAN OUTREACH CHURCH


Word Ministries is a church that serves the area (located on Erickson Ave.) and the school.

It runs a program that helps underprivileged Hispanic students with their homework after school.

PENDLETON COMMUNITY BANK


This bank is across the street from the school.

The bank gave a grant to the school to help with the schools math initiative.

They also participated at Mountain Views career day.

AGRICULTURE
Agriculture is very important in this rural area of the valley.

People depend on growing crops and raising animals to make a living.

This is the Rockingham New Holland dealer where Katies grandfather buys his tractors and equipment.

HARRISONBURG COURTHOUSE
Although crossing over into Harrisonburg County, the Court House is a great resource to use for civics lessons, specifically Virginias court system.

Gathering point over important issues in the community: recently over the cause in Syria

HARRISONBURG FARMERS MARKET


Open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7:00 am-1:00 pm

Began as an organized establishment in the 1950s and had a permanent home in 2008

Link to the regions agricultural nature: the market encourages sustainability with the local vendors
