Frank Lloyd Wright was a 19th century architect who was known for his natural architecture that emphasized space and control of it. In many of his works he uses a great deal of horizontals in his architecture, which is typical of Japanese architecture. The work of Frank Lloyd Wright is clearly influenced by traditional Japanese art and architecture. There is a correlation between Japanese architecture and his architecture because they both used shapes and emphasized form. Frank Lloyd Wright was born in June 18, 1867. Around this time, the Civil War was almost over and the Romantic Movement had started, which was caused by the artistic, social and aristocratic changes going on in society at the time. Artists began painting compositions that conveyed great emotion, horror and sublime untamed nature. Wright was the eldest of his siblings and his father William Wright was an Englishmen, who was a preacher in Richland Center, Wisconsin. When Frank was only fifteen, his father left his family leaving his mother to care for the children alone. But his mother had a strong will and was able to keep the family together. Wrights mother played an essential part in Franks life. She knew, even before he was born, that Wright would be an architect and a great one at that. She taught her son about educational theories and systems. One educational theory that I feel really helped Wright distinguish the relationships that forms and shapes have with each other was the Froebelian theory. While his family was living in Massachusetts, Wrights parents went to the 1876 Centennial exhibition in Philadelphia. Mrs. Wright was introduced to the educational theories of German educator Fredrich Froebel. This man created the concept of kindergarten and established many through out Germany.
