Chapter 1.

Introduction
1.1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE This document describes the trunk, routing and SS7 administration in C-DOT DSS MAX. It purports to be a handy reference for the operating personnel for carrying out various functions pertaining to trunk SS7 and routing management such as creating a trunk group, displaying a trunk group characteristics etc.. An approach has been followed which allows for structured comprehension of the procedures involved. This is evident in the structure of this document. Chapters 2, 3 and 4 deal with the philosophy of trunk routing and SS7 administration in C-DOT DSS MAX. Besides describing the procedures and the command flow, these chapters also describe software resources i.e. files required for execution of trunk and routing administration commands. Chapter 5 describes the format on which the trunk routing and SS7 commands are issued. The format on which the error report is generated is also described in this section. Chapter 6 describes each parameter individually in greater detail. The reader will often come back to this chapter for reference in times of doubt. Although online help is always at hand, a better description of the command parameters is available here. Chapter 7 describes operator sheets. The objective is to minimise the information gap. What you see on the screen is what is given in the document. 1.2. PREREQUISITES In order to appreciate the contents of this document, the reader is required mandatorily to be conversant with the "Man Machine Communication" document. This will make it easier for the operating personnel to interact with the system and also make the man-machine communication more efficient. It is also assumed that the reader has a basic knowledge of working of a modern digital switch. The reader is advised to read this document, atleast to begin with, from beginning to end sequentially. Later on, as the need dictates, any part of the document may be referred randomly.

Trunk Administration
2.1. DEFINITIONS

2.1.1. Trunk Circuit A trunk circuit interconnects one "node" in network to the other for purposes of putting through calls meant for terminating in one of the nodes for getting transmitted via that node towards the final desired destination. 2.1.2. Trunk Group A Trunk group is a set of trunk circuits engineered as a unit, with common characteristics, like Signalling, Category, hardware types, traffic handling type (I/C, O/G or BW) etc. directly connecting the "exchange in question" to another exchange. 2.1.3. Reference A Trunk Group may be identified by a number between 1 to 512 in case of MAX-L and 10 to 100 in case of SBM-RAX. This number is called Trunk Group Number (TGP-NUM). A Trunk Circuit is identified by the Terminal Equipment Number (TEN) designating the port at which the circuit is connected to the exchange hardware. In C-DOT MAX the TEN is the combination of: Base Module Number Rack Number (within the BM) Frame Number (within the Rack) Card Slot Number (within the frame) Circuit Number (within a slot) 2.1.4. Trunk Group Characteristics Circuits in a Group have the following common characteristics. a) Trunk Group Status (TGP-STA)
7

TRUNK AND ROUTING ADMINISTRATION

Chapter 2.

Status of Trunk group depends on the direction of traffic flow Incoming (IC) - Trunk Group used for calls coming into the exchange in reference used by the other node(s) i.e. exchanges for putting through calls meant for terminating on "local" subscribers of the exchange in reference or for further transiting of these calls towards the desired destination of the call. The "other" node has full control over these set of circuits in terms of usage of any circuit for a particular call; the other node is the "master". Outgoing (OG) - Trunk Group used by the exchange in reference for putting through calls to other exchanges. The exchange in reference is in full control of allocating any circuit for putting through a particular call. Both way (BW) - Combination of incoming & outgoing. Both the nodes have the choice to initiate an outgoing call from their end to the other end. As such it may so happen that at an instant both may choose same circuit for putting through a call from their end to other end resulting in what is termed as 'collision'.

b)

Line Signalling (LIN-SIG) Line signals are essentially signals which deal with supervision of a circuit e.g., seizure of circuits and disconnection of communication on that circuit. The type of line signalling scheme used between exchanges for a trunk group may be one of the following:
Loop Disconnect (LOOP-DSCT) E&M (E-M) DC Loop disconnect signalling system (total 2 wires per circuit) Ear & Mouth signalling system. (used on E&M trunks only. The trunk interface can be 4 wire or 6 wire but in both cases two wires viz. E wire & M wire are used for signalling purpose with ground as the reference). CCITT R2 signalling system for digital lines.(Time slot 16 used for signalling with 4 signalling bits/channel/signalling time slot in 'FORWARD' as well as 'BACKWARD' direction). This is of three types i) DR2-CAS1 ii) DR2-CAS2 iii) DR2-CAS3

Digital R2

C-DOT DSS MAX

TRUNK ADMINISTRATION DR2-CAS3 is mostly used in Indian Network. DIG-CCS Digital common channel signalling used in No. 7 Signalling.

c)

Register Signalling (REG-SIG) Register signals accomplish the transmission of information pertaining to dialling and the nature and status of the trunks / subscriber lines. These signals are exchanged between register devices of the two (or more) involved exchanges during call set up phase. The register signalling scheme used over a trunk group may be specified as any one of the following:
Decadic (DEC) Decadic Loop Disconnect signalling system. (Valid for two wire trunks, for E&M Trunks or digital trunks with CAS). Modified R2 (MOD-R2) CCITT R2 (CCITT-R2) CCITT R7 (CCITT-R7) Indian R2 Multi Frequency Compelled signalling system. CCITT R2 signalling system for international calls (2-wire). CCITT No.7 signalling system.

Note : d)

1.

At present, only DEC, CCITT-R7 and MOD-R2 are available.

MF Signalling Type (MF-SIG) This parameter is valid if REG-SIG is given as MF. The possible value of MF-SIG are compelled and semi- compelled. The compelled type will be used for formal exchange but semi-compelled will be used for those trunk groups which are using satellite channels.

e)

Trunk Group Type (TGP-TYP) Type of Trunk Group depending upon the type of exchange at the other end to which the trunk group is connected.

TRUNK AND ROUTING ADMINISTRATION

Chapter 2.

Ordinary (ORD) TAX (TTAX)

Trunk group to/from local, tandem, Manual trunk or special services exchange. Trunk group to/from TAX This value is not given to incoming trunk group when the exchange under consideration is a leading TAX. For leading TAX 'ORD' value is applicable for incoming trunk group.

Gateway (TGW)

Trunk group to/from gateway exchange

Note :

The significance of this parameter is mainly to decide the strategy of call release when a 'clear back' event is received.

f)

Circuit Group Set Number (CGS-NUM) This parameter is valid for No. 7 Signalling indicating circuit group numbers.

g)

Circuit Group Set Name (CGS-NAME) This parameter is valid for No. 7 signalling indicating circuit group name.

h)

Trunk Group Facility (TGP-FCY) The operator's junction type depending upon the facility available:
No Facility (NO-FCY) Trunk Offering (TO) Trunk group does not have any facility. When this facility is assigned to a trunk group, operator may establish connection to a busy subscriber's line to announce a trunk call. When this facility is assigned to a trunk group, operator may suspend the release of the call, by applying 'Manual Hold' signal, ignoring the clear-forward sent by subscriber.

Manual Hold (MH)

Note: 1.

TGP-FCY is given as 'TO', then access for calls from this TGP to a subscriber shall be governed by an operator access parameter defined for each subscriber. If, however, the signalling is MF, then depending on what 'category' of caller is obtained as part of signalling, the access is determined (whether TGP-FCY is set as operator or not) same is true for Trunk offer. If set, TO signal shall be honoured on the TGP; if signalling is MF, irrespective of this setting, TO will be honoured when category of caller is received as operator (else not honoured).

10

C-DOT DSS MAX

TRUNK ADMINISTRATION

2.

MH parameter determined whether on receiving a "clear forward" signal on the trunk, exchange would wait for an MH signal to appear or not ?

i)

Prefix Digits (PFX-DGT) The digits to be prefixed to the sequence of digits received over an incoming trunk group before analysing the total digits. It may be NIL or a single digit, double digit or triple digit or even four digit code. This can be termed as what is popularly known as digit regeneration. It essentially tries to take care of digit absorption in the other exchange.

j)

Dial Tone (DIAL-TN) Whether dial tone is to be fed or not over the incoming trunk group is indicated as YES NO need to feed dial tone when seizure occurs no need to feed dial tone.

This parameter is general by set to 'yes' if the other exchange is an 'operator exchange' and register signalling is DECADIC. Dial tone fed to operator assures that the wanted exchange is 'reached' and is ready to receive the digits to be dialled. k) Trunk Group category (TGP-CAT) This parameter indicates the source of incoming calls. Routing restrictions and charging are defined based on the TGP category. Depending on routing considerations, incoming Trunk Groups with similar requirements with reference to their "eligibility" (as defined by network planner) to make transit calls to various destinations and the charging type/charging value to be passed for all such destinations are assigned same "value" of routing categories. It may be a number from 1 to 64. l) Rank of Digit (RNK-DGT) The position in the received digit sequence from which digits are to be outpulsed on an outgoing trunk. For example, if rank of digit is 2, the first digit is absorbed and the rest of the digits are sent out over the outgoing trunk; "no sending" can be one of these special cases under this. This parameter can have values between 1 to 9. m) Pad Level (PAD-LEV) This parameter has no significance at present.
TRUNK AND ROUTING ADMINISTRATION 11

Chapter 2.

n)

Ring Down Signalling (RNG-DWN) Whether the outgoing Trunk requires the sending of ringing current from exchange in question may be specified as YES or NO. Generally required to be set as 'yes' when other end is an "operator's exchange having relay plates which accept incoming ring as the seizure signal. Not Implemented

o)

Trunk Group Hunt Type (HNT-TYP) Method of hunting for a free circuit within a group, to put a call through. It may be either of Sequential type (SEQ) OR Progressive type (PRO). Irrespective of what value is given against this parameter, the search across BMs (when trunks of trunk group are split over various BMs) is always sequential and within a BM, search is always progressive.

p)

Answering Circuit Status (AC-STA) The status of the "answering circuits" (automatic units/devices used for interexchange junction circuits) at the distant exchange for testing of outgoing Trunks (of our exchange, and naturally, corresponding incoming trunks at other exchange) may be one of the following: 2 Wire with Standard protocol 4 Wire with Standard Protocol Non standard Protocol At present only 2WP is available Note: This informs the testing S/W of the exchange under reference what to expect from the distance exchange on dialling up the answering circuit number of the distant end; what kind of response is expected to be received/given 2WP 4WP NSTDP

q)

Answering Circuit Information(AC-INFO) This indicates the Directory Numbers to be used to make calls to Answering Circuits at the distant exchange for testing of outgoing Trunks. The length of directory numbers is 7 and is to be given INCLUSIVE of exchange codes, network access codes etc.

12

C-DOT DSS MAX

TRUNK ADMINISTRATION

Note :

The answering number attached to an outgoing trunk group may belong to a "final destination exchange" which may not be the one immediately at the "other end" of the trunk circuits making the trunk group in question.

r)

Minimum Digits for seize forward (DGT-SZFD) Minimum number of digits that are to be received before an outgoing trunk can be seized.

s)

Trunk Priority (TRK-PRI) Priority assigned to an I/C trunk group is used for finding out which outgoing trunk group can be used for putting through a call coming in from the trunk group in question to a "route". If MF signalling is used on the trunk group, the "priority" of the caller, as received during signalling, is "mapped" onto one of the 8 values and then, for that call, this value is used for determining the trunk group choices on the O/G side.

t)

Signalling Information Set (SIG-INF) This parameter is used to supply additional signalling information.

u)

Continuity Check Indicator This parameter is used for common channel signalling systems (e.g. CCITT. No. 7) where quasi-associated signalling may be used. In such an arrangement, the continuity of voice circuits needs to be established on a link-by-link basis during call setup. The requirement of continuity check is indicated on the outgoing direction by using this flag.

v)

Echo Suppression Indicator This flag indicates the requirement/inclusion of echo-suppression equipment on the outgoing direction.

w)

Satellite Indicator This is also a flag which indicates whether a satellite section has been included in the call path or not.

2.1.5. Trunk Circuit Characteristics The characteristics which circuits within a trunk group may possess individually independently of other circuits in the group are :

Chapter 2.

a)

Trunk Circuit Status (TRK-STA) A trunk circuit may be in one of the following states In normal use (NRML) Out of service (OOS-OPR) Blocked

b)

Controller Identity (CRTL-ID) The number identifying the controller for each Digital Trunk Circuit. (32 channel PCM).

c)

Observation Allowed (OBS-ALW) Whether certain observations on the Trunk are allowed is specified as YES, or NO. Note : One can notice that all the above parameters are more dynamic in nature as compared to TGP characteristics.

It is also possible to interrogate about the TGPs having the same characteristics. For example if we want to find a list of TGPs having MF signalling. It is possible through DISPL-TGP-LIST command. The output will display the list of trunk groups having MF signalling. Table 2.1 TRUNK GROUP CHARACTERISTICS

COMMAND FLOW Three levels of software are involved in the execution of typical command. They are: 1. 2. 3. User Interface and Control Command Validation and Execution Data access and Storage

The user interface and control layer provides user/operators access to the system through operator terminals. The command validation and execution layer validates the command and executes it. Data access and storage layer provides the interface with the physical data. The operator may invoke the command through one of the operator terminals. The command may either involve 1. 2. Addition of new data or Modification of existing data. Interrogation of listing which involves display/print-out of existing data.

An example of the steps involved in the execution of a typical command to create a Group is given below. a) Operator/System Interaction 1. Command code entry: Command code CRE-TGP entered by operator Note : If IOP is in such state where update commands are disabled, command will be rejected with suitable error message though command code is correct and operator/terminal have required privileges.

Chapter 3.

Routing Administration
3.1. DEFINITIONS

3.1.1. Route Route is a path over which a call from a source can be put through to the required destination. Sometimes there may exist more than one route from a source to a destination. Those multiple routes are called alternate routes. 3.1.2. Routing The mechanism of putting through the call from a source to a destination is called routing. 3.1.3. Route Code (RUT-COD) Route code is essentially a sequence of digits which are uniquely identifiable as 'the sequence' which can be analysed independently only with exactly those many digits available - not one less. Thus, any sequence of digits is a route as long as no other route makes it a subset or it does not make another route a subset. E.g. If 243 is a route, 24 or 2439 cannot be a separate route A set of digits which are used to specify, for a site that these define a unique combination and that these digits are enough to find a TRUNK GROUP (or GROUPS) which can be used to put the call through. 3.1.4. Special Route Normally, when a 'route' is defined in an exchange, it is assumed that a call made to that route shall be ultimately going "out" of the exchange in question since the route code is much different than exchange code However, there are cases when we may wish that though a certain sequence of digits do "look" as if calls to these should not terminate in the exchange under reference (because the sequence of digits do not match with exchange code), calls are infact required to terminate within the exchange. Examples of such calls are

26

C-DOT DSS MAX

ROUTING ADMINISTRATION

complaints service in Indian network which is given route code 198, or lines men's service (163) etc. Similarly, in an ILT (integrated local and trunk transit exchange), calls coming in with the national access code of a subscriber "local" to the ILT will have to terminate in the ILT 'itself'. Such "routes" are called special routes in C-DOT DSS. These routes may have following characteristics: Terminate on a Time Announcement Equipment Posses on Alternate Directory Number (which may be a principal directory number of a hunt group or an individual directory number). Serves as an ILT code, which has integrated in it, TAX (National Access) code of ILT followed by the "local exchange" code. 3.1.5. DID Routes In network sometimes it is required to reserve a particular level in the exchange code to provide connectivity to PABX sub. This can be achieved by creating DID route i.e. route code starting with the exchange code. Example Exchange code = 548 with DIRNO digit length = 7. Say level 54821 is to be reserved then DID route can be created using CREROUT command with route code as 54821. All the DIRNO from 5482100 to 5482199 will be reserved. Note : DID ROUTE should not be opened for DIRNO RANGE MORE than 100. 3.1.6. Route Characteristics A Route as designated in C-DOT MAX has the following characteristics : a) Route Flag (RUT-FLG) In C-DOT MAX, incoming trunk groups are associated with different Routing categories depending upon the routing considerations. It is assigned during the creation of the trunk group. The Route Flag denotes a relation between each Routing category and the restrictions on calls on outgoing Route as regards to : i) Whether calls may be barred due to calendar consideration i.e; restrictions may be effective during some part of the day (night STD).
27

TRUNK AND ROUTING ADMINISTRATION

Chapter 3.

ii)

Whether normal calls may be allowed i.e., calls in which digits are such that the digit next to the ROUT-CODE is not "1" are allowed or not. Whether calls having "1" as the digit immediately next to ROUT-COD in the digits available with exchange are allowed to pass or not. It will require further analysis to determine whether the specific set of digits following the digit "1" are allowed or not in the call if this parameter has a value "PARTIALLY ALLOWED". (Presently, these digits are 161, 163).

iii)

The Route Flag is denoted as a combination of four entities :

I/C Routing Category 1 to 64 Barred due to Calendar CB - Yes CNB - No Normal Calls Allowed NA - Yes NNA - No Level 1 Services Allowed GA - Yes GNA - No GPA - Partial

Examples : 1-CNB-NA-GNA For I/C Routing Category 1, No calendar restrictions (i.e., allowed or not does not depend on time of day) Normal calls allowed to pass to the route under consideration from "routing category 1" trunks. Level 1 calls not allowed.

Local subscribers also have a routing category which is fixed presently as 1. b) Charge Rate Number (CRG-RTN) For each Routing Category, when calls are allowed to pass, there is an associated number which is used as an index to the Charge Rate Table containing charging information. The entry in the Charge Rate Table associated with this index gives the Charge Rate etc. to be applied to the call at the exchange in question.

28

C-DOT DSS MAX

ROUTING ADMINISTRATION

Actual Charge Rate is obtained using the combination of two entities : i) ii) Time of day/type of day i.e. Tariff number. Index to charge Rate Table - 1 to 128

Example : 1-10 For Routing Category 1, when call passes on this route, index to Charge Rate Table is 10. The type of day and time of day give another number (called tariff number). A combination of tariff number and change rate number gives access to the actual charge rate table. c) Digit Length (DGT-LGT) The minimum number of digits including the Route Code, which must be available in the exchange for calls to be routed over this particular Route. For cases of closed numbering i.e., where the exact no. of digits required for calls to the route in question are known, this also indicates the minimum no. of digits which will be accepted by this exchange (any extra digits would be just neglected). When this parameter is set to 20, it is treated as open numbering case. In this case, the MINIMUM no. of digits which must be obtained is fixed in the exchange for all such routes and presently has value 6 ; this value can be modified by changing the value of system parameter, ROUTING after 6 digits and before 20 digits if exchange does not receive next digit within about 5 seconds; it assumes that all required digits have been dialled. Example : If subscriber has to dial 080xxxxxx (say 080227890) to get a no. in Bangalore Digit Length is to be defined as 9 for the route (say 080). d) Trunk Group Choice (TGP-CHC) Incoming trunk groups to an exchange or local subscribers of the exchange are assigned priorities depending upon the line type as : 1-8 : Subscriber or trunk with priorities from 1-8 which can be assigned by the operator. The following subscriber priorities are assigned by the system depending upon line type irrespective of what operator gives.

In case of trunk, only eight priorities (1 to 8) are assigned while creating an Incoming trunk group. System does not assign any priority to an incoming trunk by its own. Corresponding to these subscriber or trunk priorities Trunk Group choice in a route denotes a set of Trunk Groups in their order of selection for a free circuit to put a call through having originated from a line/trunk and meant for the Route in question. Thus, Trunk Group choice is the combination of two entities : i) ii) Subscriber/IC Trunk Group Priority Set of Trunk Group Numbers

Example : 1-3-8 For calls (meant for route under consideration) from subscribers or I/C TGPs with priority 1, select Trunk Group Number 3 first to search for a free circuit. If it is completely busy, select trunk group number 8 etc. Note: Trunk Groups in TGP-CHC parameter should be an O/G TGPs and should already exist. The same trunk group should not be repeated for the same priority as an alternate choice. 3.2. RESOURCES The Hardware resources necessary for the administration of Routing information are the same as described in section 2.2. The information concerning the routing files are provided in this section.

The command may either involve 1. 2. SS7 Administration
4.1. DEFINITIONS Signalling Point Code (SPC) SPC is the point code assigned to an exchange which is a node in the SS& network. analogues to exchange code of the voice network. There can be upto four SPCs. Circuit Group Set (CGS) Each CGS consists of a group of Circuit Identification Codes (CICs) which correspond to the bothway voice circuits i.e., trunk circuits between exchanges. The higher SPC will choose ('size') even CICs and lower SPC node odd CICs. Link Set Bundle (LSB) A LSB is collecton of link sets between two adjacent SS7 nodes. Link Sets in LSB share Some attributes. This way of grouping link sets saves on memory resources as lesser data area is require to store link set parameters. Link Set (LS) A LS is a set of links which share traffic between two adjacent SS7 nodes. Links in a link set always have the same error correction method e.g., Basic or PCR. Load between the links in a link set, is shared according to signalling link selection (SLS) values assigned to each message signal unit. For instance odd SLS value MSUs will flow on one link and even SLS MSUs on the other link. For multiple links, it is not possible to balance the load perfectly if the number of links is 011. Signalling Route Sets (SRS) A SRS is a set of SS& signalling routes between any two SPCs not necessarily adjacent. Each SRS contains a set of high priority and low priority routes. This concept is similar to primary and overflow trunks groups in voice networks. SS7 Characteristics a) Signalling network (SIG-NW) It is a 2 bit code that indicates the signalling network to which the node belongs. The network could be national (NAT) or international (INAT). Spare codes are provided to accommodate multiple national or international
38 C-DOT DSS MAX

SS7 ADMINISTRATION

network. By this approach, the number of signalling point codes can be increased in a network. b) User Part (USR-PART) Level 4 comprises the 'User parts'. These define the meaning of the messages transferred by the MTP and the sequences of actions for a particular application (e.g., telephony). A key feature is that many different user parts may use the standardised MTP. Three user parts have been defined, the Telephone user part (TUP) ISDN User Part (ISUP) and the Data User Part (DUP). Presently only ISUP is used. c) Signal Transfer points (STP) Signalling No. 7 (SS7) is a message based signalling system between stored program controlled (SPC) switches. Where the intermediate nodes may be used as Signal Transfer Points (STPs), SS7 network can be used for transmitting call related messages, as well as slow speed data packets between ISDN users. d) Maximum Message Size (MX-MSG SZ) It denies the maximum signalling information field (SIF) size to be handled. Generally in ISUP implementation, DATA 272 ie. 272 Octets SIF size is used. SIF contains routing label and actual signalling information. e) Min. Active Links (MNAC-LN) It is the minimum active links threshold in a link set. If the number of active links falls below this value, the maintenance system is alerted via a threshold cross report. The system will try to activate more links in order to reach this threshold. f) Max. Available Links (MAV-LN) It is the maximum number of links available for carrying traffic in a link set. g) Min. Available Links (MNAV-LN) It is the minimum number of links available for carrying traffic in a link set. h) Error Correction Option (EC-OPT) It defines the error correction method for a link set Basic option is used to terrestrial link where as PCR (Preventive Cycle Retransmission) is used for long delay routes e.g., satellite routes.

TRUNK AND ROUTING ADMINISTRATION

39

Chapter 4.

i)

Max. MSU in Retransmission (MXMS-RB) It defines the maximum of MSUs to be retained in retransmission buffers. If acknowledgement is not received within a specific period or a negative acknowledgement is received, appropriate number of MSU are retransmitted from the buffer.

j)

Max. Octets in Retransmission Buffer (MXOC-RB) It defines the maximum numbers of message octets to be retined in the retransmission buffer. MXMS-RB and MXOC-RB are used in tandem to control the levels of retransmission buffers.

k)

Logical Links (LOG-LNK) It is the logical identify of the link in the link set. Logical link id should be same at both the end or nodes. For example if TEN (DAT-LNK) 1-1-2-7-17 is given logical link id as 0 at C-DOT end then the same time slot on PCM circuit should be made logical signalling link 0 at other end also.

l)

Data Link (DAT-LNK) Signalling data link identifies the channel on the digital transmission medium which is to be used as the signalling data link. The data link chosen should be the same by both the ends of the link.

m)

High (priority) Route Table (HI-RTBL) In a signalling Route set, the set of high priority routes.

n)

Low (priority) Route Table (LO-RTBL) In a signalling route set, the set of low priority routes. These routes will be selected if the high priority routes are unavailable.

5.1. COMMANDS All commands follow a common format. The commands are entered as a set of alphabets, interspersed with one or more hyphens. Once the validity of the command is ensured, a parameter form is displayed on the terminal screen. The operator may now enter appropriate parameter values. 5.2. CONVENTIONS Some conventions have been followed throughout this document. Unless otherwise specified they follow the correspondence given below. [Parameter] = Square brackets mean a "non-essential" parameter i.e. default value exists for that parameter. On the other hand, an unbracketed parameter means that the parameter is "essential" and a value must be specified by the user. An error will be reported otherwise. {P1, P25} = Signifies that the parameter may accept a list of values. The brackets signify start and end of a list. It means that out of the two parametersparameter1 and parameter2, one must be provided. It means that either parameter1 or parameter2 and parameter3 must be provided.

CAMA

Indicates whether CAMA Information Required or not. This CAMA parameter is valid for an incoming trunk group only. When a call comes to C-DOT TAX on an incoming trunk of a trunk group which is having CAMA parameter as YES, then C-DOT TAX will ask for CLI from the originating exchange, only if the system level parameter (CLI-INFO) is also set to 1. Also incoming trunk group has another parameter SIG-INF which indicates whether the call is to be failed or passed if CLI is not received. 3 ASCII 1. YES 2. NO None CGS-NAME

Normal call restrictions - 3rd Field ; ASCII - 1. NNA 2. NA Level 1 call restrictions - 4th Field ; ASCII - 1. GNA 2. GA 3. GPA EXAMPLE : 1-CB-NA-GA 4-CB-NNA-GA DEFAULT Note: 1. Routing category for each I/C TGP must be decided for each site depending on the "network planner's" routing and charging related restrictions/information for that site for calls originating from various trunk groups and meant for various routes. e.g., If 10 incoming trunk groups are such that calls from these are allowed to certain route and not allowed to certain others (but the allowing/disallowing is uniform for all trunk groups) and to whichever route calls are allowed, if the charging strategy to be applied is exactly same for all, then all the 10 groups can be given same ROUTING CATEGORY (any value - the actual value is immaterial). 2. If e.g., it is desired that from a certain set of trunk groups, call to certain route should be allowed only if the digit "immediately next" to ROUT CODE is '1', then NNA and GA combination can be used (provided digits beyond '1' are not of any significance, as far as allowing or disallowing the call is concerned). It should be noted that routing category is "allocatable" for each and every trunk group (incoming) through man machine commands. For subscribers of the exchange, whether PBX, CCB, ordinary etc., the category value is fixed and itself a system parameter. Presently it is 1 for subscribers. It should also be noted that "RUT-FLG" parameter is given against each route (or special ILT route) and therefore its effect must be considered in the context of route/special route under consideration a) Effect of parameter value of CB/CNB For the route in question, when the caller (source) has the routing category under consideration, if this field is set to 'CNB', it implies that
TRUNK AND ROUTING ADMINISTRATION 63

Chapter 6.

the allowing/barring of calls from the given source to the route in question does not vary with time/type of day. If set to value 'CB', it implies dependence of the decision of "call allowed to this route from this category or not" on time and type of the day Depending on the value of a 'flag' (variable), which itself changes its value as the time passes by ("set" for some time zones/some types of day; reset for 'other' times!) the routing decision may change from 'allowed' to barred mainly useful for "NIGHT STD" kind of provisions to be built at TAXs. b) Effect of Parameter Value NA/NNA For the route in question (i.e. the sequence of digits making up the route under consideration and coming from a source of given routing category), calls which have a digit sequence that does not have "digit 1" as the "immediately next digit" to the "sequence of digits that define the route" are governed by this field. e.g. if route code was 08484, then all calls having digit immediately next to 08484 as "not digit 1" are "governed" (allowed or barred) by the NA/NNA. When this field is set to "NA" ("Normal" calls allowed - normal implying the type of calls we have described above) such calls shall be allowed if they are coming from a source having routing category in question (of course, even if set to NA, if CB/CNB field is set to CB, these kind of calls will be allowed only in some time zones/during some types of days ). When set to 'NNA', irrespective of time etc., such calls shall not be allowed to pass. c) Effect of Field GA/GNA/GPA This field governs calls not covered under '(b)' i.e. covers all calls which have "digit 1" as the "immediately next digit" to the sequence of digits which make the route e.g. in the example of route taken earlier, calls of the type 084841XXXX shall be governed by this field. When this field is set to GA, it implies that no matter what digits follow the digit 1, all calls shall be allowed (calendar based, if CB/CNB field has been set to CB). When set to GNA, it implies that no matter what digits follow digit 1, all calls shall be disallowed. When set to GPA, it implies that only if the digits following the "digit 1" are those contained in a table maintained in the exchange at a global level (applicable for all routes), the call shall be allowed to pass else it will not be allowed to pass. The 'GPA' option decides whether call to level 1 from a route is restricted or not. Command MOD-GPA exists to define the entries in "level 1 table" which decide which combinations of digits following the 'digit 1' are allowed! Also, it should be noted that though the 'table' defines only the next two digits following digit 1, the call may actually

Another fact of not assigning same category to incoming trunk group as that of local

subscribers is that different charge rate numbers are to be used for calls originated from local subscribers and calls coming on incoming trunks. Even in cases where pulse rate is same for both types of calls originated from subscribers and on incoming trunks, the initial charge will always be different for ORG-OG calls and IC-OG calls should be 1 to ensure that subscriber is charged as 1 unit on ANSWER the initial charge for IC-OG calls is kept as 0 because originating exchange will have flexibility to charge 1 unit on ANSWER. If for transit calls coming on I/C trunk groups are to be given only one trunk group choice while sub originated calls are to be given 3 (as above), the trunk group can be given a priority 2 and for priority 2, TGP-CHC can be defined as 2-32.

Note: However, that in case of I/C TGP using MF register signalling, calling party's category obtained as part of MF signalling would be used in routing and not the TGP priority When category received is ORDY SUBS, it is treated as lowest PRIORITY and when it is received as PRIORITY SUB, it is treated as highest PRIORITY.

TRUNK PRIORITY REMARKS :

TRK-PRI This indicates the priority assigned to all circuits in a Trunk Group. Priority assigned to a trunk group is used for finding out which O/G trunk group can be used for putting through a call coming in from the TGP in question to a "route". In case of decadic signalling, I/C trunk groups priority overrides the subscriber priority but in case of MF signalling, priority is treated as follows : i) In case of MF signalling, if call is coming from an operator (incoming trunk having trunk offer TO facility) to C-DOT exchange and it has to go to a specific O/G route then whatever priority is given to I/C trunk, this call will pass to O/G route only when trunk group choices are defined for priority 5 which is operator priority.

ii) In MF signalling, if priority of calling line indicates that incoming call to C-DOT exchange is coming from a priority subscriber then in C-DOT exchange, priority 2 is mapped for this incoming call to select an O/G trunk group to pass this call via C-DOT to outgoing route. iii) In MF signalling, if calling line identify indicates that I/C call to C-DOT exchange is coming from an ordinary subscriber then in C-DOT exchange, priority of I/C trunk group on which this call is coming will be mapped to select an O/G trunk group to pass this call via C-DOT exchange to outgoing route. In case if `ALT-NUM' option is selected for "RUT-TYP" parameter then a typical example of this can be, say complaints number which has "route code" 198, but service is common with XXX2198, where XXX is the exchange code. Thus, XXX 2198 became an alternate number for special route 198. 2. In case if `ALT-RUT' option is selected for "RUT-TYP" parameter then a typical example of this can be, say, 911 is access code for Sonepat from Delhi but actual STD code is 01264. In this case a special route 911 is opened in C-DOT TAX/ILT with RUT-TYP = ILT and ALT-CODE = 01264. PARAMETER DESCRIPTION

Note For a call to a route, a charge rate number can be defined against each category (routing category) of "caller" or "source" of the call. Thus for the same route (i.e. sequence of digits dialled), different charging criterion can be applied if "source" is given different routing categories !

ROUTE CODE REMARKS :

RUT-COD Route code is to designate destination for an outgoing call. It is essentially a sequence of digits which are uniquely identifiable as "the sequence" which can be analysed independently only with exactly those many digits available - not one less. Thus, any sequence of digits is a route as long as no other route makes it a subset or it does not make another route, a subset. e.g., if 243 is a route, 24 or 2439 cannot be a separate route

RESTRICTIONS Trunk group number now given should not be an already existing number. Circuits under this group should not be members of any other group. While creating an O/G Trunk Group, 'DGT-SZFD' should normally be greater than or equal to 'RNK-DGT' so that trunk is busied for minimum duration. While creating an I/C trunk group, the free TENs of I/C trunks or bothway trunks only should be given. Similar is the case with O/G Trunk Group also. Total number of trunk groups in SBM exchange can be 100 and in MBM exchanges this figure can be 512.

DESCRIPTION 1. 2. Once an O/G Trunk Group is created, it becomes operational only when it is associated with the route as one of the trunk group choices. For creation of an I/C trunk group with Prefix Digits (PFX-DGT) as i) ii) 3. 'Nil', give default value for "PFX-DGT" parameter by pressing <RETURN> key (However '0' will be shown in this case) '0', give '0' by typing '0' against this parameter "PFX-DGT" (In this case also '0' will be shown).

CAMA Implementation CAMA is an incoming trunk group parameter which can be set as YES or NO. IF SIG-INF parameter is set to CLI-N-FAIL, then calls without CLI will fail. This parameter should be set to NONE (default value) only when administrator is sure that the parented exchange is also connected to some 128P RAX/MILT which are not capable of sending CLI. In this case call will pass even when CLI is not received.

PRECAUTIONS 1. 2. A route should exist with the given old code. No route should exist with the given new code. New route code should not be a superset/subset of an existing route.

DESCRITPION On modification of the route code to new route, the old route code still exists in the system but some flag indicating "Modified" is set against the old route code which has been modified. The old route code can be used further only after its deletion. After modification of old route code, if someone dials old route code, then the treatment to the call is given based on the value of "MODE" parameter given during modification of the route code. This "MODE" parameter can have one of the following values " 'ANN' or 'OPR'

RESTRICTIONS 1. 2. In the typ-day the entry should be not-barred. In the route flag the entry should be GPA.

DESCRIPTION This is used to allow level 1 route or block level 1 route, e.g. if the route code is 011 and we want that 011180 should not be allowed. So with this command we will block 180 route and the calls will not be put through. NU tone will be fed. All other level 1 call like 198, 197, 170 will be allowed via 011 route.

PARAMETERS TGP-NUM TGP-NAME Trunk Group Number, numeric, 1 to 512 [ALL-TGPS] Trunk Group Name, ASCII [TGPS]

PRECAUTIONS 1. The trunk group given should have been created earlier.

DESCRIPTION 1. This command will display all the routes associated with the given Trunk Group Number. The command will be useful when some one wants to delete an O/G Trunk Group. For deleting an outgoing Trunk group, it has to be removed from all the routes. For that it is essential to know the association of this TGP with all the routes so that it can be removed from all the routes. If "TGP-NUM" parameter is given default value (just by pressing 'RETURN' key against this parameter), then all existing trunk group (IC, OG, BW) in the system are displayed in the response of the command along with their associated routes if any.
