story Contents of a Dead Mans Pocket, the main character Tom Benecke worked many months on an idea that could make him eligible for an promotion, all written down on a piece of paper that had been blown out of his window and onto his ledge, Tom decides without a second thought to retrieve it. Tom experienced external conflicts as a result of that ambition and selfishness of his, such as the many close encounters with death when he stood along the ledge of the eleven story apartment. Whilst Tom was trapped outside of his window ledge, in unsuccessful attempts to detected, he set enflame scrap paper from his pocket as a signal and drop coins to catch the attention of the ground level bypassers. He resorted to shattering the window with his fist, he only had one chance, for if he did not, the rebound would send him flying out and fallingfallingfalling, but that didnt happen; in his sudden epiphany from fear, he realized that his wife and family are most important to him and he crashed through the window, welcomed by the warmth of his apartment.
