Sub Genre: Realism Soap that is realistic and seems as though everything that happens could happen in real life. They correspond as closely as possible to our world. Been around since 1940s. Eastenders, Coronation street and Emmerdale.

Reflections of realistic people, wearing normal, neutral coloured clothing that youd see in everyday life. The villain The couple The drunk The unfit mother The gossip The homosexual Set in suburban setting in England to relate to the audience. Only uses diegetic sounds in the scenes which are a convention of realism. Straight cuts, so the transitions dont exaggerate real life by using this continuity edit. Lots of two shots to help the audience understand the storyline.
