Things Fall Apart: Narrative Writing

The shot whizzed past my head with a loud screech. I turned around to see the huge shadow towering over me. The second shot fired. Everything went pitch black. Let me tell you how it really happened. It was the week of peace and I was walking around the compound, when I saw that the banana tree had grown some leaves. Okonkwo said that he wanted some soup and told me to make some. I thought that some banana leaves might give the soup a different taste that Okonkwo might like. When Okonkwo came home from whatever he was doing, he was mad and wanted to find some way to take his anger out on someone or something. When he saw that I took some banana leaves off of the tree he yelled, Who killed this banana tree!? I replied that it was me. Just as he was about to beat me, I reminded him that it was the week of peace. He didnt listen. He beat me many times. After he finally gave up, I went to my hut and cried. Later that night, I heard Okonkwo yell at me to go fetch his gun so he could go hunting. I went to go fetch his gun, but before I reached his obi I whispered to myself, I dont know why you are trying to go hunting. You never even kill anything. Okonkwo heard me and roared, You dont think I can shoot anything? I answered with fear, Its the week of peace you cant hurt me. Okonkwo grabbed his gun from his obi and I ran with fear across the compound. I ran past Nwoye and Ezinma, and they screamed with fear when they saw Okonkwo, with his gun, running after me. I saw the exit from the compound, but it was too late. Okonkwo was already standing there waiting for me. I turned around to run, as I heard a shot fire from the gun. It felt like the world was in slow motion. I turned to see the shot, but I tripped over a cock. Okonkwos shot missed me by a couple feet.

He loaded his gun again, and aimed at me. I jumped over a fence that holds the animals, and found Okonkwo standing above me with the gun aimed at my head. Everything went black. I heard a yell come from outside the compound while I was falling into darkness. Okonkwo, stop! someone yelled from over the wall. It took me a second to realize that it was Obierika, yelling at Okonkwo. Okonkwo stopped in his tracks and Obierika came storming into the compound. I fell into a deep sleep. I woke up lying in my hut in the middle of the day. I found Okonkwo sitting next to me, and I screamed. Then I saw Obierika come into my hut and say that everything was okay. I ate some yams that Ezinma prepared for me and I lied back down into my bed and fell into a deep sleep.
