Reflection 2 In the beginning of the passage it is stated that any activity in which you invest so much of your energy,

your creativity, your intellect, and your resourcefulness will, for better or for worse, affect your life far beyond the scope of that activity. An example is provided shortly after that if in 20 years from now a stranger asks you who you are beyond what is your name you will respond with the occupation of your job instead of saying a husband or a wife. Ive come to noticed that those in college indentify each other by each of our majors but not necessarily by one anothers personal lives. The similarity of being identified as what major we are persuading is the same as identified one self as a job occupation. Sennett tells a story about a father who moves forward repair by repair, interest payment by interest yet was identified by his one occupation in two different ways depending on which community he moved to. When this man visited his old immigrant community he was viewed, honored, and respected as a worthy elder who had made something of his life who had made it in the outside world. But when he is in his ranch house neighborhood, he was silently respected by his neighbors because he was able to do what everyone else was doing, like keeping up with his house and keeping the garden neat. This story is just a prime example on how we are not looked at as a person but as what job we do.
