Jonathan Brown English 1101 Adam Padgett 12/9/2013 Semester Reflection In English 1101 I learned a ton of useful tactics

for persuasive writing and I also had a lot of fun. I think the biggest thing I learned in English 1101 was that specificity is ultimately important when arguing a point. Another is to use valid sources and to question those sources for faulty, unauthentic information. I really enjoyed this class. My favorite part of the class was probably the in-class discussions, I loved to talk about different issues in the class and most of the issues were very interesting and I generated a lot of ideas about them. Before English 1101 with your class I really honestly hated English above all other classes. I despised it because I was never good at it. My first C through school was in my 8th grade English class. I have never really enjoyed English classes and writing either like other classes. I actually enjoy calculus and science classes, in high school calculus was my favorite class because it was quiet and all we did was just sit around doing work, and I was exceptionally good at calculus. English, on the other hand, was always a drag and I always needed help with writing. I think I never liked English because it never really had a direct answer like math and science. This year I really learned to appreciate writing and enjoy it. Oddly enough, English was my favorite class this semester, although I still do not like English as a subject the class was very fun and I was actually interested in writing for the first time. I think your teaching methods are very interactive with the students and I really enjoyed English 1101 even though when I signed up for the class I thought it would be a nightmare because Ive always done poorly in English. I can see my writing skills have definitely gotten better since the beginning of the semester and a lot of my beliefs on writing have changed. One thing that changed

was that at the beginning of this semester I defined good and bad writing, now I do not think good or bad writing exists. I also became more of an analytical thinker instead of just seeing something and thinking about the first thing that comes to mind. I really enjoyed English 1101 this semester and I plan on taking 1102 with you.
