Dear Editor of the NY Times, I have recently been informed that the presidential primary elections in our country

are seriously flawed. I would like to take this time to inform you, about the failing primary system, so that, if you see fit, you might inform the general public. In the Primary elections, the two major parties seek to nominate their candidates for: Congress, the Presidency, gubernatorial races, etc. But the primaries themselves have many problems such as; Limited voter participation Varying levels of state influence Cost of campaigning Weakens the political party

These occur because mainly many voters want to vote with their party, not another party that may better suit their needs. Also many candidates only visit the major states leaving smaller states at a disadvantage. To me, this is a serious problem in our country; we do not allow everyone an equal chance to get to know the candidates. Or for them cast an educated vote. This system only makes it hard for others to pick a candidate that will help our country and better their way of living. If we could change the primary elections to suit every state equally, each candidate would have to persuade America as a whole that they are the best candidate. Sincerely, Hannah Willey
