(lanche ?ubois and Stanle )o$als%i hold the main conflict of the drama" fighting o#er honest " manners" character" and ho$ Stanle feels he9s been cheated out of mone " though other conflicts include those bet$een Stella and (lanche" and $ithin (lanche herself. (lanche ?ubois comes across as a beautiful and intelligent 1southern belle6" $ho is #isiting her sister" Stella" after the tragic loss of their once great famil plantation 1(elle 7e#e"6 $here the t$o girls $ere raised. Soon after she arri#es ho$e#er" follo$s a hurricane of conflict. Some opposites ma attract" but Stanle and (lanche repel each other. The sources of conflict for (lanche and Stanle ha#e their roots in the time before the t$o met. The setting in $hich the $ere raised leads to conflict -on the surface le#el. of manners in the presence of others" and e#en on their o$n. <n a deeper le#el" $hich is ne#er mentioned in their speech" is the battle o#er Stella9s lo alt and de#otion0 her sister #ersus the man she lo#es. &s noted in the description and definition of conflict abo#e" 1each of the opposing forces must at some point seem li%el triumph6" but $hat this pla does is %eeping the audience in suspense b creating point and counterpoint repeatedl bet$een (lanche and Stanle . !n the scene in $hich (lanche ma%es up the cruise $ith her e,+beau" Shep 5untleigh" she and Stanle ha#e the house to themsel#es and all hell brea%s loose. (lanche is bac% to being deranged" alone" ho$e#er she is no$ in a sanitarium" and Stanle continues to be the simple man he al$a s $as. The conflict bet$een these t$o is a #er complicated #ersion of the modern da issue of ha#ing a relati#e+in+ la$ $ho has a conflicting personalit .
