Madison Minor Cornerstone Annotated Bibliography Mirasol Recovery Centers. (n.d). What Is Bulimia? Anorexias Destructive Twin.

Retrieved from http://www.mirasol.net/eating-disorders/bulimia.php This is an online source. The author of this website is the Mirasol Recovery Center. The audience of this source is the readers. This source would be helpful for patients with eating disorders looking for treatment, family of patients with eating disorders, or even people like me, looking for information about eating disorders. The Mirasol Recovery Center created this source to educate people and offer help to people who may have an eating disorder. The Mirasol Recovery Center has several different programs where eating disorder patients can come stay and overcome an eating disorder like Bulimia Nervosa. The reason for the authors communication is because eating disorders are a very serious mental illness. Without treatment, many people die from disorders like Bulimia Nervosa and Anorexia Nervosa. The main points of this source are that many people, including men and children, are diagnosed with eating disorders. Many young children are becoming obese also. Many people who are diagnosed with an eating disorder do not get the help they need. The mortality rate is high in people who do not receive treatment for their illness. Also, another main point is the expense of treatment. The average cost of a month of inpatient treatment for an eating disorder is around $30,000. This is a credible source because all of the main points are based on evidence provided by research and experience with their patients. The source appeals most to logos because they emphasize how important treatment is. The author is qualified to be writing about this because they are a

recovery center for eating disorders. I used many statistics from this source that my other sources did not provide. Mother Speaks Out After Losing Daughter To Bulimia. (2012). Tell Me More (NPR). This is a primary news source. The author is the mother being interviewed about losing her daughter to Bulimia Nervosa. The audience is a person watching the interview and anyone who has struggled with an eating disorder, healthcare workers, a family of someone with an eating disorder, or someone looking for more information on an eating disorder. The sources main points are that the signs of Bulimia are specific, Bulimia is a serious illness that needs to be treated, eating disorders are not a choice, and Bulimia takes a large toll on internal organs. This source was created to provide proof that the consequences of eating disorders are real. This source is very reliable because it is the mother of the child who died, speaking about her daughters eating disorder that took her life. She tells her story at many colleges, created a film about her daughters story, and speaks out about eating disorders in order to prevent what happened to her daughter, from happening to others. This interview appeals to logos and pathos; especially pathos because of the harsh reality of the situation. The argument of the source is that eating disorders are very serious and should be talked about and prevented. The evidence provided that supports the argument is the mothers first hand experience with her daughter. I used this source because it was the only source I found that was primary and a true story of losing a loved one to an eating disorder. The information seems very accurate because it is hard to believe that a mother would lie about her daughters death and make a film about it. I also found it reliable because it was on EBSCO host. I know this site is credible because it ends in .org and all evidence is backed up by research. All information seems accurate and the source appeals mostly to logos and a little bit of pathos. There is no defined argument, just that eating disorders can be prevented and cured. I used the most research from this site. I used this site to learn the symptoms, warning signs, treatment, definition, and some statistics also. Office On Womens Health. (2012). Bulimia nervosa fact sheet. Washington, DC: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This is an online source. The government is the author of this source, which is why I knew that it is a reliable source. The site even says that you do not have to cite the source because their purpose for creating it is because they want to spread awareness about eating disorders to everyone. There is not one specific audience, but anyone could find this source helpful. The reason for communication is just like the other sources I have found; to spread awareness and inform people about how serious eating disorders are. All the information provided on the site seems very accurate and is supported by a solid base of research. This source appeals to pathos and logos because it can affect your feelings but is also based on facts. From this site, I got many

statistics that my other sources did not provide me with. It also gave me steps on how to confront a friend you are worried about, and how to go about getting them the help they need. This is also where I got my information on the effects that Bulimia Nervosa can have on pregnancy. Sifferlin, A. (2013). New Genes Connected to Eating Disorders. Time.com, 1. This is a periodical source. The author of this source is Alexandra Sifferlin. This source was created because currently, there is no exact cause for eating disorders. Many scientists believe that if you have a family history of eating disorders, you have a better chance of developing one yourself. This article supports this theory of scientists and reveals new information that may lead to evidence that proves this theory. The audience of this source is other scientists especially, students studying disorders like these, patients and families affected by eating disorders, or people like me who are looking for information on eating disorders. The reason for communication from this source is because if these genes really do play a role in determining the development of eating disorders, it may be big news in the medical world and to families with a history of eating disorders. The main idea is that people with family history of eating disorders are more likely to develop one too. The argument is supported with evidence found by the University of Iowa and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. The two universities have found in two different families, genes that they believe may increase the likelihood of developing an eating disorder. This source appeals to logos. It is all based on research and is a credible source because the information has come straight from the findings of the two universities. I also knew this source was reliable because it was on EBSCO host on the Rod Library website which is reliable to use. From this source, I used information from the research to support in my speech about why researchers believe that family history of eating disorders may play a role in future generations developing them also.
