For the ethnography project, I am planning to observe the discourse community of the History Department.

The way I planned to go about this project was by writing a formal letter to the department chairman, to see if I would be allowed to sit in on some of the faculty meetings. This way I can gain an understanding of how the professors prepare for each lecture and what is involved in getting ready for their classes per semester. After that, I plan to sit in on a few of their classes to see if what was discussed in the faculty meetings was actually implemented in classroom lectures. I am a part of the History major discourse community; however, my current observations of the community are from a student perspective. I want to view and understand the perspective of the faculty members in the history discourse community. I plan to observe Doctor Gammons specifically at 12:30 in her Modern Latin American Studies course.
