History is the study of past events, and their impact on our present and the future. Studying history allows you to explore the way the world has developed and encourages close investigation and lively debate on a wide range of topics, from cultural changes and political ideologies to medicine. The AS course introduces you to two fascinating and absorbing topics, the reign of Elizabeth I in the Tudor era and Race and American Society across the 19th and 20th centuries. You will also be challenged to develop your historical analysis skills and learn the importance of validity and bias. At A2, you will consolidate these skills whilst examining the debates surrounding the Holocaust and completing your own historical study.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment at AS Level All units are assessed by external examination, in the summer term. Assessment at A2 Level All units are assessed through controlled assessment, which are internally marked and externally moderated.

If you enjoy the challenge of History, like reading and extended writing and want to be able to think like a historian, then this is the course for you. You need to be self-motivated and dedicated to pursuing your own historical interests, as well as being effective at using your initiative.
Where can it take me?
If you are interested in a career in Journalism, Law or Politics, then an A Level qualication in History is essential. Previous students have gone on to study History and its related subjects at degree level and have pursued careers in Teaching, Writing, Business and Television Presenting. 22
