Infections are not independent events, but the depend on the i""unolo#ical state of the transplant recipient, *hich in its turn is deter"ined b various factors, the "ost i"portant bein#+ a#e at the ti"e of the transplant, #ender and i""unosuppressive treat"ent. The ob)ective of this stud *as to assess infections that occurred in patients under#oin# heart transplantation procedures. Material and "ethod. 3, consecutive patients that under*ent orthotropic heart transplant and received i""unosuppressive therap *ere assessed for a period of 3"onths. .e noticed post/transplant infections at 1 "onth, - "onths and 12 "onths intervals. Correlations *ere "ade *ith the serolo#ical tests that *ere perfor"ed on both the donor and the recipient before the transplant 0&I1, &B1, &C1, CM1, %B1, T232, and so on4. The dia#nosis of viral, bacterial and fun#al infections *as established based on serolo#ical and bacteriolo#ical testin#. $esults. The patients5 a#e *as bet*een 12 and 67 ears of a#e *ith an avera#e of 38,6 ears9 28 patients 0,6,, :4 *ere "ale, 7 patients 02;,3 :4 fe"ale. In the first "onths after the transplant the follo*in# data *ere collected+ 1< patients developed viral pneu"onias, 3 cases of bacterial pneu"onias *ere identified, 2 patients developed pul"onar asper#illosis, 1 patient / TB9 s=in and "ucous viral, bacterial and fun#al infections *ere observed in 6 patients. Conclusions. Ma)or co"plications *ith lethal potential *ere seen in patients *ith TB and pul"onar asper#illosis. !atients *ith viral, bacterial and fun#al infections variousl located sho*ed favorable develop"ents.
