Galconda, Rene Magritte 1.

My first reaction to the artwork is confusion as at first the elements of the painting seem out of place and dont really fit in with each other. The buildings remind me of European style houses and the men seem high class or wealthy. The artwork on the whole shows apartment buildings on the background, light blue clear skies and men in all sizes scattered around the artwork randomely. The colours cream and white are used for the houses and the skies are blue. They seem faded which does not attract much attention meanwhile the dark bold black colour stands out in the men suits and so does the bright red in the rooftops attracting the viewers attention. The mixture between the light and dark colours provides good contrasts meanwhile the light seems to come from the right as the realistic almost print like figures of the mens shadows are to the left. The structure of the painting of the painting seems linear in most areas. While doing this I think the painter was trying to create confusion but send a message that perhaps that men everyday are fighting to provide income for households although personally I believe the message still remains unclear.

Figure with meat, Francis Bacon 2. At first the impression of the artwork is extremely dark making me feel anger and fear reminding me of death or pain in some sort the colours used are black, browns, red and blue. They are all faded together to create a sense of unity to the work. The painting shows the ribs and legs of pork splt up and hung in a gory way and in the middle a fat wealthy looking man. The background seems to be a shadow showing real contrast with the brighter colours like blue, red and light brown which ultimately create the image. The eyes of the man are shadow so a creepy sense is added. I think the message is animal cruelty and how corporations are getting rich out of animal cruelty and abuse which creates a sense of sadness to the painting as a whole.
