Culture Act
Level and Age: Intermediate learners 16-18yr old High school students To learn about the Mexican culture with introducing the students to a molcajete they dont only learn why this artifact is important but they also learn about the foods associated with this artifact. They will be practicing all skills. They will be reading the questions in English and in the target language and they will answer them both written and in oral format. Lastly, they will listen to the correct answers and will have to write them down. I would bring in a molcajete and place it in the middle of the circle of desks and I would handout a picture with the questions attached to it. The students will be allowed to touch and hold the object. They will go back to their desks to answer the questions in Spanish. After everyone has finished answering the questions, the students can start by sharing their answers and thoughts about the object. Then, I will give them the correct answers and they will compare how accurate they answered them or how wrong they were. Another class discussion will arise of why they thought what they thought about the artifact and how that can hinder stereotypes of other artifacts.
