Subject: Math Grade level: 8th Grade Time: 40 minute of class periods.

Lesson objective:
Students will use a diagram to help them understand and solve algebraic expression.

Common Core Standards:

Algebraic expression Represents and solves real-world problems graphically, with algebraic expressions, equations, and inequalities.

Uses algebraic problem-solving strategies to solve real-world problems involving linear equations and inequalities.

Overview:

Students will identify and understand terms related to an algebraic expression. The diagram will allow them to identify algebraic expression, as well as to guide them on how to solve the equations.

Preparation:

This lesson requires the Inspiration software about algebraic expression and how to solve equations. This maybe will be helpful for students to learn more http://www.studygs.net/pemdas/ .
Lesson: Teach students how can they solve for expression? There are many ways they can solve problems. For an example, 3n (5n + 7) is seems difficult to solve but isn't, it just need little bit of thinking and open brain.

Students will explain the cause and effect between identify terms, coefficients and simplify variable expression.

Organize Students into groups of 4 to work in the expression Discussion about cause and effect of the events of simplify variable expression and identify terms, coefficients.

Adaptations/Extensions:

o Have students groups make presentations to class about the causes and effects of their events of simplify variable expression and identify terms, coefficients. See the difference ways of how students solve equations.

o Students may also use completed diagrams bubble map or web. o Students will take notes during their classmates presentations because theyll take quiz after the presentations to see what they learned from it.
