AIR WAYBILL AWB

What is used for Sender and recipient Practical advice Document template

WHAT IS USED FOR An Air Waybill AWB is a non-negotiable transport document covering transport of cargo from airport to airport. The Air Waybill must name a consignee (who can be the buyer), and it should not be required to be issued to order and/or to be endorsed as it is not a title of property of the merchandise. Since it is not negotiable, and it does not evidence title to the goods, in order to maintain some control of goods not paid for by cash in advance, sellers often consign air shipments to their sales agents, or freight forwarders agents in the buyers country.

PRACTICAL ADVICE
The document is issued in three originals and is not negotiable so cannot be issued to the order; it is always nominative and non-endorsable. It serves as acknowledgment of receipt of the goods and as contract of air transport governed by the Warsaw Convention (1929 and 1955 Hague Revision), and also serves as accounting document as includes the cost of transport. Its format consists of a standard template by IATA (International Air Transport Association) which contains the name and address of the consignor and consignee, name of agent carrier and code, cargo airports of origin and destination, and description of goods, number of packages, weight, rates, etc. It also, indicates whether the freight is prepaid or due, according to the instructions of the consignor.
