Amanda Fox AIS 301W 8/5/13 Northern Alaska and Mental Health Resolution: Family Programs to fight Mental

Health

Whereas, many northern Alaskan tribes recognize that depression and suicide is an increasing problem in many communities and must be dealt with on multiple levels.

Whereas, Many Federally Recognized Tribes recognize that there is a need for programs to help these communities fight mental illness. Through programs that this grant could provide.

Whereas, we recognize that the appropriate method of helping with the problem of mental illness is within the community and family units.

Whereas, the Northern Alaskan tribes see that the programs and ideas that are in work with the programs that I hope to provide in the grant. This grant would work to start programs that would help parents, community leaders, family member to understand the first signs of depression and the tools that could help to stop suicide.

Whereas, the tribes of Northern Alaska we recognize that the authority to start these programs in our communities.

Now Therefore Be it Resolved, we must work with community leaders,To see where the programs that this grant would offer are most needed. And the best way to present the information that would be included in these programs, such as the first signs of depression, how to help those in need, different ways of coping with depression and what recourses are available.

Be it Further Resolved,That the different tribes in Northern Alaska authorize us to be able to work within the communities. And help figure out the best use of this grant and how this can best help the community.

Be it Finally Resolved, that the leaders of these communities and professionals that we bring in to help further the programs that can help people understand the first signs of depression and have the tools to fight it. That within the community, leaders, and family can all work together to lowers the rates of depression and stop suicide.
