Theme Unit: Root words Monday

Week of 11/18-11/25

Notes
Direct Instruction

Introduce new worksheet and review other root words we have learned. Explain instructions for the worksheet. Guided practice with first two questions. Students will finish the worksheet on their own.

Tuesday

Students will continue to work on the worksheets.

Independent practice

Wednesday Students will create a booklet of seven root words. Booklets must include:
root word, its meaning, a sentence using the root word, and a picture. MATERIALS: booklet for each student and coloring supplies

Custom graphic organizers while connecting to root words. Works on sentence structure and penmanship.

Thursday

Continue to work on the booklets. If students finish they can silent read, help others, or study with a partner.

Friday

NO CLASS

Monday

Present booklets in small groups. Students are to discuss their sentences and Practice presenting show the pictures they used. information

Common Core Standard: CCSS: ELA-Literacy. L.5.4b Use common, grade-appropriate Greek and Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word.
