Due to the added flexibility of IP, the interface equipage in RNC can be limited to the aggregated expected utilization bandwidth of several Node-B. With TDM termination alone, interface in Node-B end would have been insufficient and the interface in RNC would have been unwieldy and wasteful IP architecture in the end link also support the scalability w.r.t up gradation in technology towards 64QAM, MIMO and LTE Media reliability is also much better with IP connectivity, failure of one or two E1 will not necessarily be visible to O&M team otherwise and quality issues would have been more severe with stream error in any of the E1link
