Lionel was a E-5 Sergeant which meant the following applied; typically commanded a group of nine or ten men. Last of his medals; the silver citation star was given for his overall outstanding performance as a sergeant. This medal was later renamed the Silver Star Medal and is now almost treated synonymously with the Army Commendation Award.
