Student-to-Career Job Skills Conference

Thursday, December 5, 2013 8:15 a.m. 11:30 a.m. Nipmuc Regional High School
Sponsored by Blackstone Valley Education Foundation, Workforce Central/Milford, Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce, Senator Richard Moore, Senator Michael Moore All students (juniors & seniors) will begin their morning by attending a 30-45 minute orientation. Students will then participate in a one hour jobs skills session and two 30 minute business presentations. Job Skills Sessions (one hour) Workforce Central/Milford will conduct sessions on the following: 1. searching for jobs 2. resume writing/preparation 3. interviewing skills 4. dressing for success Classroom-Sized Presentations (30 minutes) 4-5 large businesses, especially within manufacturing, will discuss information about the following: 1. their company 2. types of entry level positions they fill 3. skills and education requirements 4. process for submitting an application for employment School Requirements 25-35 students (juniors & seniors) minimum of 2 chaperones BVEF will fund one school bus per school--submit transportation invoice to Erika Baums attention at BVEF (include date, total number of passengers, location and cost) Require students to dress for success Require students to bring copies of either a resume or bio sketch *I will be in touch once we solidify the businesses that will be represented. Students will attend their top two choices.
