Type of Plan: Movement in confined space Location: United States Recording: "A Ram Sam Sam" from the CD, "Action! Fun! Dance!" Purpose: Students will increase their learning by incorporating music with movement in a confided space. Objectives: Students will develop listening skills. Students will work on moving to and maintaining a steady beat. Students will recognize repeated phrases. Materials: Audio file of A Ram Sam Sam, by The Learning Station Introduction: Movement begins when the singing starts Formation: Seated at desks Alternate Formation: Standing in a circle Standing next to desks Music Concepts: Tempo, beat

Procedure: Part 1. The teachers will start by playing a short audio clip from A Ram Sam Sam. The teachers will ask the students if they noticed anything about the phrases in the song (made up words, words repeat). The teachers will then demonstrate the movement for the phrase a ram sam sam o Slap both hands to your thighs in time to ram sam sam. o Play an audio clip and practice doing the movement for ram sam sam.

Part 2. The teachers will then demonstrate the movement for the phrase guli guli.

o Hand over hand turning motion in front of you (roll hands). o Play audio clip and practice guli guli movement. o Play audio clip using both ram sam sam and guli guli movements. Part 3. The teachers will then demonstrate the movement for a ra-vi. o Place your hands together (prayer) then hold them next to your cheek as you tilt your head left then to the right. o Play audio clip and practice a ra-vi movement. o Play audio clip using a ram sam sam, guli guli, and a ra-vi movements.

Part 4. The teachers will then demonstrate the movement for arms up high, reach for the sky o Throw arms above head and shake out to the left and right. o Play audio clip and practice arms up high movement.

Part 5. Review each movement without music o A ram sam sam -- slap both hands to your thighs in time to ram sam sam. o Guli guli -- hand over hand turning motion in front of you. o A ra-vi -- hold your hand on your cheek as you tilt your head left then to the right. o Arms up highthrow your arms above your head and shake to the left and right.

Part 6 Play audio clip while using all the movements. Students should sing along as they learn the lyrics.

Dance Simplification: Keep the tempo slow without speeding up. Lead Up Activities: Play the song first. Teach the movements one at a time while reviewing old movements. Combine the movements. Add music. Teaching Tips: Build upon and review skills that students are developing to help them better learn it.
