Amanda Anderson 10/02/13 Chapter 5 Animals

Animal Story Sentences and Word Phrases: this idea of clapping at patting the rhythm and words of a song or story is a great idea. It can accent and syllables in speech and be a sound map.

Chickadees: this would be a great little activity to have the students sing to help reinforce repeated take away subtraction. Five little chick a dees, theres no room for more, one flew away then there were four. Chickadee hickadee do not stay, chickadee chickadee fly away.

Ten Fluffy Chickens: This is a great song that does repeated addition. Five eggs and five eggs and that makes ten, sitting on top is the mother hen. Cackle cackle cackle cackle what do I see? Ten fluffy chicken as yellow as can be.

The Elephants: also a great addition learning song. I would use it with a jump rope down on the floor and have the children be the elephants. One elephant went out to play, upon a spiders web one day. He had such enormous fun, that he called for another elephant to come.

Ten Little Frogs: I actually learned this song in girl scouts and I still love it. Its an adorable little song that is fun, but also teaches students to remember take away math (subtraction).

Alice the Camel: I like this song as well for the repeated take away subtraction. The suggested teaching tips of having students in a circle and creating humps is cute too.
