Three Idiots: All is Well What is wrong with being number 2? Tuesdays with Morrie.

. This question may be a ine des!ri"tion o the #alues shown in the mo#ie$ Three Idiots. It is a dee"ly mo#ing story about the li e o three Indian engineering students named %arhan$ &a'u and &an!ho. %arhan$ on one hand$ obeyed his "arents$ es"e!ially his dad$ all his li e. (e too) u" engineering be!ause it was his dad*s dream although he really wanted to be a wildli e "hotogra"her. &a'u$ on the other hand$ was a remar)able student in his early s!hool years but he su!!umbed to his ears whi!h made him 2nd to the last in !ollege. Their li#es !hanged when they met an e+traordinary man who be!ame their roommate. And his name is &an!ho. Those who wat!hed the mo#ie may state that &an!ho was the one who brings enlightenment. ,es most o the time that was true. Without the !om"li!ated !ir!umstan!es in %arhan*s and &a'u*s li#es$ &an!ho would not be able to tea!h the #iewers about li e. Without the "eo"le who need illumination$ his guidan!e would not be that a""re!iated. It*s li)e lighting a !andle in broad daylight. In this essay$ I would grou" the #alues I ha#e learned rom &an!ho into three: -a. The light &an!ho to %arhan$ -b. (ow &a'u be!ame ree rom his ears$ and -!. &an!ho and his #iew on /du!ation. A. The light Rancho shed to Farhan %arhan*s li e was di!tated by his ather rom the day he was born. When he saw that he was a boy$ he said: (e*s going to be an engineer. And that !ame true. It was &an!ho who dis!o#ered %arhan*s "otential and "assion in "hotogra"hy but his dad dis!ouraged him be!ause his grades went down -but still it was in the 012 ran).. &an!ho belie#ed in %arhan and made him belie#e in his "otentials$ too. 3e!ause o &an!ho$ %arhan started to "ursue what he wanted and not what his dad wanted. Many times in our li e$ we are li)e that. Most o the time$ we say$ I*m so sad or I only got 41 in a 5116item e+am. We bother with the results too mu!h that we tend to orget about the blessings we ha#e 'ust re!ei#ed. We requently !om"lain that we !ould not see the things that matter more: our "assion$ the things that ma)e us ha""y$ or the things that enlighten us. Moreo#er$ we also needed others to belie#e in us be ore we inally belie#e in oursel#es. 7obody )nows what our uture will be. Thus$ belie#e and say: All is well8 B. How Raju became free from his fears &a'u$ although (indi$ resembled the way 9hristians beha#e in times o need: he "rays and s"ends a ortune in "rayer rings. ,es$ one should not !ease "raying: it*s an honourable a!t. (owe#er$ &a'u surrendered to his ears and let them eat him whole. ;raying without letting go o your ears is "raying hal 6heartedly. %urthermore$ it is "raying without aith. <ood thing &an!ho moti#ated &a'u to belie#e in himsel and to let go o his ears. /#erybody$ regardless o his=her religion$ should always )ee" in mind that no lu!)y !harms or "rayer rings !ould sol#e ones "roblems. <et rid o your doubts$ worries and un!ertainties and )ee" in mind the saying Nasa Diyos ang awa, nasa tao ang gawa. >astly$ i !on usion "re#ails$ )no!) sense in your heart and mind by saying: All is well8

!. Rancho and his "iew on #ducation and on $ife &an!hoddas$ or ;hunsu)h Wangdu$ is a symbol or the ideal learner. (e has a rare "assion or a!quiring )nowledge: he*s li)e a s"onge that )ee"s on absorbing e#erything. Also$ he lo#es what he*s doing. (e lo#es engineering so mu!h that he en'oys e#erything and not on!e did he !om"lain. Moreo#er$ he did not !om"ete or ran)ing in s!hool: or him$ the ra!e did not matter. (e said$ %&ursue e'cellence, and success will follow, (ants down)% While most o his !ontem"oraries went to !ollege or a degree$ and with the belie that no degree meant no "lum 'ob$ no "retty wi e$ no !redit !ard$ no so!ial status$ none o this mattered to him. (e was in !ollege or the 'oy o learning: he ne#er !ared i he was irst or last. /#ery student should aim to ha#e at least a "ortion o his enthusiasm in edu!ation. %urthermore$ his "hiloso"hies in li e holds true or e#ery soul in this "lanet. ?"timism is hard to a!quire but a!!ording to him$ our hearts are easily ooled$ so in e#ery tribulation$ 'ust whis"er$ All is well. I only all o us were li)e him$ our !ountry$ and e#en our world$ !ould be a "la!e o "ea!e and harmony. Three idiots is a #ery tou!hing mo#ie that tal)s about "assions$ "ur"oses$ dreams$ and in a broader dimension$ about li e$ edu!ation$ religion$ amily$ and riendshi". 3asi!ally$ it tal)s about the things that matter. (ow you listen to your heart. (ow you ind who you really are$ your #alue$ and what is the most im"ortant thing or you. And more im"ortantly$ li#e li e to the ullest. >i#e it to the e+tent that whene#er you en!ounter a tribulation$ run li)e the wind and say: All is well8
