Reflection 05

Last class we continued our studies about stress, seeing the point of view of an American author. The most important thing for me, however, was the professors attempt of making us aware of the importance of collocation. We had already been told about its importance in previous classes and even in Phonetics I. Indeed, what really caught my attention was how it was done. As I said, we were reading an academic text about stress. When there was some interesting word, however, the professor would stop the reading and do some kind of exercise with us about the word in question and its collocations. It really surprised me, because even now, a week later, I can remember most of the words and their meanings. As Im going to be an English teacher, it is really important to learn new activities and ways of teaching my future students. I also hope to be able to make them aware of the importance of collocation, because the English native speaker do use them, and if one wants to speak like them, its necessary to know as many collocations as possible.
