Abdul Meelar Cindy Rogers English 12 October 8, 2013 Assignment 7 Book Review: The Time Machine by H. G. Wells In The Time Machine, by H. G. Wells, the main character the time traveler enters the story as an inventor. The Time Machine is narrated from the perspective of Mr. Hillyear, who believes in the time traveler. The story revolves around the theory and application of a time machine which the time traveler invents. When the time traveler leaves for the first time, he is gone for a week. When he returns, he tells all of his guests the details of his adventure. Later on in the story the time traveler, leaves for a second time on the time machine and he never returns. The time traveler speaks about time traveling in a very theoretical and realistic sense. He had invented a time machine that appears to be capable of multi dimension travel. The time traveler tests the prototype after which the prototype disappears. The time traveler then leaves on a full-sized time machine into the future, and finds a strange race of aliens, named the Eloi. The time traveler then befriends an Eloi named Weena. He quickly realizes that his time machine is missing. He learns about another race that is threatening the Eloi. Upon returning to his arrival location, he finds that his time machine has been stolen by another race of creatures. This other race is known as the Murlocks, who fear the light and only come out during night time.

Meelar II

The narrator, Mr. Hillyear first appears in the story as a guest of the time traveler. He and a few other characters, a psychologist, a young person, a man named Filby, a Mayor, and a few others were also attending the dinner. The narrator goes back to the time travelers house the next day, and the time traveler promises to be back from a trip within half an hour. But the narrator reveals that it has been nearly three years since the time traveler left and he still hasnt returned.
