ABSTRACT Assistive technologies play a critical role in the lives of people with severe disabilities and help them

to lead independent self-supportive lives. Persons severely disabled as a result of causes ranging from traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries to stroke and cerebral palsy generally find it extremely difficult to carry out everyday tasks without continuous help. Assistive technologies that help them communicate their intentions and effectively control their environment, especially to operate a computer, can greatly improve the quality of life for them and may even help them to be employed. Assistive technologies help them to lead a self supportive independent life. This paper is an idea for one such device The Phototyper, an innovative device which follows the movement of the head and allows the person to navigate through the web with only head movements. This device is a powerful alternative for people with no control, or only limited control, over their hand movements. It may be a comfort to common man but the only source of access to the web for the differently challenged. The principle of thru beam sensor is being employed by which, when visible or infra red beam is passed from a transmitter to a receiver, if a target crosses the beam or vice versa, the change in intensity of the light beam passes the signal to the receiver.
