crime? In The Murder of Roger Ackroyd a wealthy squire is murdered. He received a letter just before his death about his lover murdering her husband and being blackmailed for it. A modern medical examiners main job is to figure out the cause of death and the time of death. The inclusion of the medical examiner at the death of Mr. Ferrars in this novel would make the rest of the plot nonexistent. Village rumor hints that Mrs. Ferrars murdered her husband. This is important because medical examiners look at any suspicious death (Bryant, 2013). You would never believe me when I told you she poisoned her husband (Christie, 1926. pg 4) says Caroline when she is discussing with Dr. Sheppard about the death of Mr. Ferrars wife. She always believed Mrs. Ferrars murdered her husband and now is surer than ever (Christie, 1926). Caroline is also the gossip queen in her town and anything she thinks will be gossiped all around town (Christie, 1926). Dr. Sheppard says whatever he told Caroline about Mrs. Ferrars death would be common knowledge in town soon (Christie, 1926). Also, Caroline explains about how Mrs. Ferrars died from the remorse of killing her husband and how she has been hag-ridden ever since her husband died (Christie 1926). The fact that she is hag-ridden draws more suspicion to her and her death. The medical examiner would have to investigate this death. Through this suspicion, a medical examiner would investigate the death of Mr. Ferrars using all of his methods to do so. The medical examiner would first come to the scene of the scene and take dozens of pictures to help later in the investigation (Cuyahoga, 2010). He/she would then take a quick examination at the crime scene looking for evidence of blunt force, or DNA from the murderer (Byrd, 2013). This would be done using a quantification kit to find DNA, then a genetic analyzer to determine size of DNA strands and then a polymerase chain

Jason Boynewicz 2/17/2013 Fact to Fiction Final draft A7 reaction amplification kit to amplify the chromosomes and check in a FBI data base for matches (Cuyahoga, 2010). Then the body is taken to the morgue where the medical examiner performs an autopsy using a bone saw, knives, and the camera again to take pictures and collects tissue samples for later testing (Cuyahoga, 2010). The autopsy is mostly used to find blunt force or sharp force damage and to see how this force killed them (Cuyahoga, 2010). Then the samples are taken to a lab where multiple tests are done to find any poisons in the system (Byrd, 2013). This method is very effective using a wide range of tools to find almost any poison can. The medical examiner would find out Mr. Ferrars was poisoned. After that, an investigation would begin going to find the murderer. Mrs. Ferrars would at least definitely be the prime suspect because almost everyone else would have an alibi and not be in their house. In court she would almost definitely be found guilty thanks to the help of the medical examiner who would have to testify in court how Mr. Ferrars died as the job requires (Byrd, 2013). Then the story would be over. The only reason Roger Ackroyd was murdered was because Dr. Sheppard was blackmailing Mrs. Ferrars and Ackroyd was about to find out (Christie 1926). He covered up his tracks by taking out Ackroyd (Christie, 1926). If Mrs. Ferrars was sent to jail, he would have no one to blackmail, and he would not need to cover his tracks. Ackroyd would never be murdered! The inclusion of a medical examiner at the death of Mr. Ferrars would make the rest of the plot nonexistent. The village held too many rumors for a medical examiner to ignore; he/she would have to investigate Ferrars death. Using his/her equipment, he/she would certainly find out Mr. Ferrars was murdered. Then the court would find Mrs. Ackroyd guilty because of
