    Jesus Huerta appears dead in the back of a Durham police car, with a 'self-inflicted' gunshot wound - in spite of having been handcuffed and searched. 19 December 2013. A protest and vigil congregates in the People's Plaza of Durham. Under the town Christmas tree and in the flickering lights of a score of backup vehicles, police in riot gear advance on a nonviolent crowd, tearing down banners and signs, chasing and tackling protestors, and spraying chemical weapons indiscriminantly. I couldnt be more proud of the restraint and professionalism demonstrated by our officers tonight. Police Chief Jose Lopez said. "This had the potential to be much worse," He added ominously.
