Lastweekweexaminedindetailtheconceptofaright.Itisasphereofentitledfreeactions,the entitlementtowhichisnonconditionalandneednotbeconveyedbyanyexternalsource.Theentitlement comesfromrealityitself,andthehumancondition.Manypeoplemaydifferontheirviewsofcreation,but thisquestionneednotdividesupportersoftheproperconceptofrights.Whateverprocessorbeingbrought aboutthehumancondition,ourconditioniswhatitis...andthatconditionimpliesselfownership.Ourlives requireustobevolitionalactorsandutilizeourownershipconditioninwaysthatpresumeit. Nowthatweveestablishedthateachindividualhumanisentitled,byvirtueoftheirexistence,toacertain rangeofselfowningactions,howdowedealwiththeresultsofthoseactions.Howweaddressthis questionisveryimportant.Mistakenapproachestothishaveledtosomeveryenduringfalsehoodsand mistakesinthenotionofrights. Eventhoughourhumanconditionentitlesustotakecertainactions(withoutexternalinterferenceviaforce), itdoesntentitleustotheresultsofthoseactions.Whenwedetachtheideaofarightfromthenotionof entitlementtoactionsthemselves,thereisatendencytoassumeanentitlementtoresultsofactionswithout examiningthewaytheywereobtained.Idliketoexamineacommonfallacythatcomesfromconceptions ofrightsthatgobeyondentitlementstoaction. Rightsvs.Capability Oneverycommonconfusionwiththeideaofrightsistomistakecapabilitiesforrights.Whileyouhavea righttotakewhateverselfowningactionsofwhichyouarecapable,yourrightsarenotdecreasedorviolated byafailureincapability.Ihavearighttoflapmyarmsandattempttofly,butmyinabilitytoachievethe resultdoesnotreducemyrights.Sincerightsareanentitlementtomyuseofmyselftoattemptthis,Iam stillactingonmyentitlementwhetherIsucceedorfail...solongasmyentitlementwasnotinterferedwith byforcefromanother.Onlyforceorfraudviolatesrights...notconsequencesfromreality. Onceweunderstandthattheentitlementinvolvedinarightisanentitlementtotheaction,ortheattempt, wecanseethatwhileitentitlesustouseourselvestopursueanobjective,arightdoesnotentitleusto evadetheconsequencesrealitywillimpose.Tosuggestthatonehasarighttoexpectacertainresultofour actionsistoexpecteitherthatanotherisobligatedtomakeupforourfailuresintakingthoseactions,orto expectthatrealityitselfmustchangetoourdesires.Theformerrequiresaviolationoftheveryconceptof rightswestartedwith,negatingthoseindividualsselfdetermination,andthelatterissimplyanabsurdity.
