Unbalanced Loads

Unbalanced Loads Any polyphase load in which the impedance in one or more phases differs from those of other phases is said to be unbalanced.

Unbalanced Delta Loads

Unbalanced Wye Loads Unbalanced Wye loads must first be converted to equivalent delta loads

Combined Wye and Delta Loads Delta connected loads are sometimes operated in conjunction with wye connected loads as shown in fig. if the tree phase line-to-line voltages Vab, Vbc and Vca remain sensibly constant irrespective of load conditions a relatively simple solution may be effected by first converting the wye load to an equivalent delta load. The two parallel deltas may then be combined to form a single equivalent delta connected load.

Wye-Delta System

Power Measurement

A three phase wye connected generator is shown connected to a delta connected load. To solve such a system, convert the delta connected load to a wye connected load and then solve using the process shown earlier.

The Two Wattmeter method The Three Wattmeter method It can be proven that the three-wattmeter method can be simplified mathematically resulting in the need for only two wattmeters to measure the power on a three phase three wire system 3 wattmeters Wa, W b, and W c are connected so that they measure the power on phases an, bn and cn respectively. The addition of all three gives the total real power.
