Data Analysis In this experiment, the independent variable is the background noise and the dependent variable is the

number of numbers memorized. As seen in the data table, The Effect of Background Noise on Short Term Memory, the average amount of numbers memorized, out of 10, for no background noise is 7.2, for the clock it was 6.5, for the rain it was 7, for the lobby conversation it was 6.7, for the crowd of children it was 6.9, and for the university crowd it was 7.2 respectively. In this experiment, the range of values for all background noises is 9. The standard error was lowest for the background noise of rain (0.34) causing a shorter error bar. The next highest standard error was the university crowd (0.36), then the lobby conversation (3.8), then clock and children crowd were the next to last highest with 4.0, and then the highest was none with 4.1. The error bars were all fairly close in length but one could tell which are longer. In order from smallest to largest standard deviations, rain had 2.45, university crowd had 2.6, lobby conversation had 2.7, children crowd had 2.88, and lastly none and clock tied with 2.9.
