PROJECT PAPER PREPARATION GUIDELINE MASTERS MODE A (COURSE WORK) 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 1.

2 The project paper is part of the requirements for awarding the Master Mode A degree. It is completion of worth of six credit hours. This guideline can be used for projects in all faculties. However, each faculty may tailor it to suit to the relevant project in the disciplines/areas at the faculty. Student may register for project after they have passed 6 courses (24 credits) in the master programme.

PROJECT PAPER OBJECTIVES : By doing this project, student will be able to: 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 practice research methods exhibit knowledge in the specific field. execute knowledge through small research. enhance the skills in academic writing. produce original work and share the findings of the project with others.

TYPES OF PROJECT Projects can be prepared in various forms. The following are examples of three types of projects: 3.1 Empirical short research project paper This project can be carried out in the form of case studies, action research, and survey research. Library research project paper 3.2.1 3.2.2 3.2.3 3.2.4 The project is prepared based on the literature review on an issue or theme or hypothesis. This can be studied through various perspectives. Generally the study synthesizes ideas on issues or relevant themes in a meaningful way. It can be in the form of historical research of an aspect, institution or educational figure.

Product development paper or research module towards developing products in the form of software, modules, instruments, teaching materials or innovative teaching methods.

HOW TO CHOOSE A PROJECT TOPIC 4.1 Students may choose project topic or what to study based on : 4.1.1 4.1.2 4.1.3 the areas or discipline of the study topic or theme identified in the field by faculty education-oriented (if education field)

Note: To help students identify the project title or subject to be studied, each program in the Faculty of Education may recommend topics, themes, major issues or major problems in the areas concerned. Therefore, the study will contribute to increase the students knowledge, provide insights or educational improvement measures in the area or discipline. Students may make a preliminary discussion on the subject or matter to be researched with any lecturer before submitting the proposed project title. 4.2 The project proposal to be carried out has to be informed to the faculty by filling a form called Project paper proposal form issued by the faculty. This form contains the following details: 4.2.1 4.2.2 4.2.3 4.2.4 4.2.5 4.2.6 4.2.7 Details of the students and faculty Students specific field Project title Project objectives Problem statement and research questions The method of carrying out the project The proposed names of three (3) lecturers who may be the appointed supervisor.

Note: This proposal form should be submitted to the respective Dean of the Faculty. 5.0 SUPERVISORS APPOINTMENT 5.1 Students proposal form will be brought to the Graduate Studies Committee Meeting. This meeting will make recommendations for the appointment of the students supervisor. The proposed supervisor may be among the lecturers at the Faculty or from other faculties. Recommendations will be brought to the Faculty Meeting for approval. A copy of the student project topic and name of the supervisor should be sent to the Institute of Graduate Studies for record purposes. Minutes of meetings of the Faculty which contain the above matter shall be presented to the Senate meeting for their attention and approved. The faculty must write a letter to the students after the approval has been given to carry out the project, and stating the name of the supervisor. A copy of the letter to the student should also be sent to the supervisor.

SUPERVISION PROCESS 7.1 7.2 Students should met with the supervisor at least twice (2) a month. Supervision log book that is provided by the Institute of Graduate Studies / Faculty can be used by students, supervisors and faculty to record the supervision activities. The students progress in the project must be reported in the faculty meeting at the end of each semester. A progress note of (SM)/average (M) or Unsatisfactory (TM) has to be stated. In the case in which students do not progress well provide reasons for stating not satisfactory and the kinds of action that have been taken. Project paper must be completed within two (2) semesters. If the project is not completed after the semester ended, students are considered failed and must repeat the paper title with a new project; Only one repetition is allowed and the new grade will replace the old grade.

PROJECT PAPER SUBMISSION 9.1 Two copies of completed soft-skin bound project paper must be submitted to the Dean of Faculty via respective supervisor and using the Project Paper Submission Form prepared/issued by the faculty. The Dean shall appoint examiners for the students project paper, who is the students supervisor or another examiner.

Examiner is given 14 days to review the students project paper, by using a Project Paper Assessment form. The university grade scheme has to be referred for grading purpose.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA The project report is evaluated based on the following aspects: a. b. c. d. e. Fulfill the research objectives Have a clear focus. The suitability of the methodology used. Logical and coherent argument. Clarity in writing : i. Continuity between parts ii. Correct use of language iii. Appropriate and consistent style f. Latest and relevant references. g. Relevant appendices Note : The length of the Project Paper shall be between 16.000 to 20.000 words

SUBMISSION OF REFINAL COPY TO UNIVERSITY Three (3) copies of the Project Paper with hard bound cover (dark red colour), with two (2) copies of the CD (PDF format) shall be submitted to the Dean of Faculty office for record purposes.
