Voyager is my very first published and publicly released

composition. It is also only my second ever piece for solo guitar, the
first being a short tune I wrote when I was 13! I knew I wanted to
write something that really exploited the guitar's wonderful
resonance and harmonic capabilities, as well as its ability to allow
melody to turn into chords by using campanella (cross string).
I experimented with various different tunings until I finally settled
on the 'DBDABE' tuning used in this piece. It was a tuning I had not
come across before. I found it created an unusual sound and, unlike
most open tunings, allowed me to move through different keys and
tonalities with relative ease.
Inspired by the spacecraft of the same name, Voyager depicts the
epic journey the probe has taken through Space so far. From the
projects initial conception, to the probe reaching the outer reaches
of the Solar System, Voyager takes the listener on swooping and
cinematic flight though Space.
My aim with Voyager was to not necessarily give a detailed account
of the probes expedition, but more to invoke a sense of its huge
journey and the stunning sights it has seen.
