Applications for OPS Diversity Mentoring Partnership Program closes Sept.

13 The OPS Diversity Mentoring Partnership Program is now accepting applications for the 2013-14 year. Deadline to apply is Sept. 13. Since its launch in 2008, the program has aided over 1,000 executive and employee partners in gaining cultural and diversity awareness through mentorship. Senior OPS executive sponsors are paired with employees to meet for a minimum of six hours within 12 months. At these meetings, the two partners mentor each other. Executive sponsors provide employees with their personal journey through and perspectives of the OPS while employee partners provide valuable insight into the organization through their experiences as members of traditionally underrepresented groups. These groups include: Aboriginals, Francophones, LGBTQ (Lesbian Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) employees, Persons with Disabilities and Visible Minorities. Being a part of the program has given me the opportunity to think strategically about my career choices. Rob has given me advice, guidance and helped build my confidence to compete for more senior roles, said Carolyn Morris-Walker, with the Ministry of the Attorney General, who partnered with Rob Dowler, Assistant Deputy Minister of Economic, Environment, Justice and Intergovernmental Policy at Cabinet Office. The program is part of the OPS Diversity Office strategic plan and supports inclusivity, cultural and behavioural transformation through non-hierarchical learning.
