As we read, these images appear in our mind and we make similarities of how our dreams can be deferred. TONE The tone in the poem is very negative; impulsive and quite disgusting. It compares a dream being put off as garbage. SPEAKER The speaker of the poem is trying to reflect what exactly happens to a deferred dream. FIVE SENSES- Langston Hughes use of the five senses really make the reader feel what it is like to defer a dream. It makes you feel disgusted. THEME The theme of the poem is that postponing your dreams is wrong. You might think that youll go have time to finish it, but it might just rot like meat.
