IMAGERY The whole poem consists of imagery because it creates pictures in our head such as a raisin in the sun. As we read, these images appear in our mind and we make similarities of how our dreams can be deferred. TONE The tone in the poem is very negative; impulsive and quite disgusting. It compares a dream being put off as garbage. SPEAKER The speaker of the poem is trying to reflect what exactly happens to a deferred dream. FIVE SENSES- Langston Hughes use of the five senses really make the reader feel what it is like to defer a dream. It makes you feel disgusted. THEME The theme of the poem is that postponing your dreams is wrong. You might think that youll go have time to finish it, but it might just rot like meat. Do not let anything stop you from reaching your dreams. I want to learn how to play the piano and when I waste time on doing so it reminds me of my dream sagging like a heavy load.
