Berlin Wall The Berlin Wall started building on August 31, 1961.

The reason why the Berlin Wall was built was to spilt Germany in half. I have been studying Germany in my Global Studies class and saw a black and white photo of the Berlin Wall. In the background there is a building standing tall. Above, the guards the old building was on a corner. The windows bricked up so no one could talk to each other on both sides .In front of the building, the three guards are standing in the doorway. The gate is in the middle of the picture. There is a sidewalk that is surrounding the building that the guards are standing on. At the time the picture was taken, the wall was just being built so it was only about six feet tall. Above the wall is barbed wire so people not to jump over the gate. Behind the wall on the west side there were about 50 well-dressed people from all ages. In conclusion, the photo represents how different people on the east and west side lived.
