he German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (German: Deutsches Forschu ngszentrum fr Knstliche Intelligenz, DFKI) is one of the

world's largest nonprofit contract research institutes in the field of innovative software technology bas ed on artificial intelligence (AI) methods. DFKI was founded in 1988, and has fa cilities in the German cities of Kaiserslautern, Saarbrcken, Bremen and Berlin. DFKI shareholders include Microsoft, SAP, BMW and Daimler.[1] The current direct ors are Prof. Wolfgang Wahlster (CEO) and Dr. Walter G. Olthoff (CFO). DFKI conducts contract research in virtually all fields of modern AI, including imag e and pattern recognition, knowledge management, intelligent visualization and s imulation, deduction and multi-agent systems, speech- and language technology, i ntelligent user interfaces, business informatics and robotics. DFKI led the nati onal project Verbmobil, a project with the aim to translate spontaneous speech r obustly and bidirectionally for German/English and German/Japanese.
