O What's up?, I'm Carlos Len from Mxico and in this

PowerPoint which corresponds to the lesson 1 from

the introduction to music production at coursera.org,

I will show you, what are the most important cables to have in a home studio.

O Let's get started with the heart of a basic TS cable. 1. 2. 3. 4.

Jacket. Shield. Insulator. Centre core.

O And this wire it's connected to a plug in this form.

On the plug of a ts cable we find 2 sections: O The tip where is connected the conductor. O The sleeve is where is connected the ground wire, what prevent some noise.

Now in a trs balanced cable, we find another section it's called ring, and this is no other stuff than an additional signal of conduction. O So this can be named like a stereo cable because it send 2 signals at the same moment. O Like in headphones.

Other kind of balanced cable that prevents 99.9% of noisy, it is a xlr cable.

O this cable is less noisy because have more shield between

wires. O these are the most commons for using with a microphones and makes more stable the handling. O The best form to convert the signal of a ts or trs cable into a xlr cable it is with a direct box.

This eighth inch balanced cable it's like a trs but smaller, and regularly it used in headphones or the connectors from the back of a computer.

O and don't forget to have one in your studio.

At last we find the rca connectors that basically have the same structure.
O A tip and a sleeve.

O These are useful to connect devices like a cd player to the

mixing devices and then to the interface and then the computer.
