UMD Minority Enrollment Increases 8.7%


Despite stagnant campus enrollment, the minority population is growing College Park, Md. Minority Enrollment at the University of Maryland increased by 8.7 percent this fall, even though the overall campus enrollment grew less than 1 percent. Based on self-reported data, enrollment of AfricanAmerican students increased from 34 to 678 students. American Indian student enrollment increased from 44 to 565 students. Asian student enrollment increased from 44 to 565 students. Hispanic enrollment grew from 28 to 452 students.

The increase in minority African-Americans constitute the largest minority students is a gratifying sight population at the University of Maryland with for the many students, Asian student enrollment trailing closely behind. faculty and administrators who have worked for it, Chancellor William E. Kirwan said. We still have more to do. This is only the beginning. Statistics show that five years ago, minority enrollment was 1,540 compared to 1,899 students this year.
