Relationship of Bio20 to Civil Engineering Introduction to Biomimetics Engineering and Component Design is one of t he courses that is required to take

up as I journey my chosen field in civil engineering. This course discusses concepts of how an organism achieves complex "emergent" structures and performance from simple components and examine architectural, mechanical and industrial component design. It seeks the possibility and potential of a radical bottom up course for design proceeding from a component strategy derived fom the analysis of "biological" co mponent stategies. Biomimetics is an active field of research with its scientific roots relatively young. Looking into the future, the application of b iomimetics in civil engineering is foreseen in development of multifunctional structural materials. This course will taught us to have considerable potential in the development of new high-performance materials with low environmental impact. It will not only benefit us humans but the nature as well. Another relat ion is that Biomimicry innovation methods can help us to create products and processes that are sustainable, perform well, save energy, reduce materials cost, redefine and eliminate waste. Therefore, this course is so much important not only in our field but to other enginerring and architectural studies. Goals for 2014
